During our time back in Sydney we were graced with some beautiful weather (remembering it’s their Autumn), with clear skies that gave us warm sunny days and chilly evenings.
We began to plan our US trip over casual breakfasts and more familiar dinners than we've been used to over the last 12 weeks, and quickly realised that internet time would be very expensive across America, so we’ve bought ourselves a small laptop that will more than pay for itself in time.
After travelling through Asia without a problem, and here for 9 weeks previously without a hitch, the cash machines in Oz have now decided they don’t want to give us any money, which proved to be a little inconvenient. We were thankfully helped out by Carrie, who we’ve met up with a few times whilst here. You may remember we went for a few drinks with Carrie (and Simon and Nic) the last time we were in Sydney. We met up with her for three consecutive nights as we enjoyed a good old ‘Curry Night ’ on Oxford Street in Surry Hills. This was followed by a pub crawl in Balmain, where we hit several old traditional boozers with names

The view from our hostel rooftop garden in Potts Point like The London Hotel and The Exchange, where we were joined by Scott, a friend of Carrie's. In the latter, whilst awaiting Carrie’s return from the loo, we heard a loud thud and turned to see a girl spread-eagled on the floor with a few local lads coming to her aid………it was Carrie! She claimed to have slipped on a discarded chip of all things. Personally, we think it was a well rehearsed routine, gaining the desired affect of drawing out the hero element in unsuspecting men. Sympathy was the least we could offer when we saw the bruise the following night, when Carrie and her flat mate Charlie treated us to a fine lamb roast, our first real reminder of each of our mum's cooking since since we left.........yes, that is supposed to be a compliment! Thanks girls - after our Asian stint you have no idea how much it was needed and appreciated. But the chip incident will be remembered from this day forth as ‘Chipgate’ and Scott, you‘re to recall the incident at every future social gathering you and Carrie attend.
In all seriousness Carrie, we wish you well in whatever road you take, thanks for
taking time to see us and stay in touch.
A very strange thing occurred by the Opera House on our final day. We were strolling around taking some pictures when we heard someone say "Hello". On turning around we recognised two German lads that we'd shared a taxi with back in Guilin (China). Albeit a coincidence, this might not be that remarkable if it wasn't for the fact that we bumped into them whilst walking along The Avenue of Stars in Hong Kong as well. That's the same time in the same place in three different countries. We discussed our next destinations and realised that it would probably be our last encounter. We chatted for a while then wished each other safe travels and went our separate ways.......again. What are the odds, eh?
Our six days back in Sydney have gone quicker than any other time throughout the trip. It was great to be back and even harder the second time (Sam’s 8th) to leave.
But the trip is far from over, and we’re both really excited about our plans for the USA. We kick off the next leg of the journey in the most remote stretch of

With a cameo appearance from the moon. land in the world, with 2000 miles of Pacific Ocean between it and the next continent. It's also America’s 50th State…..Hawaii.

Just spent the afternoon reading your blog and looking at your incredible pictures....keep them coming - they have kept me very amused! See you in a few months! Can't believe how quick it's gone. Take care xxx
