Day-23 ~Milford Sound

Another really early start as we took a day trip to Milford Sound in the Fjiords on a small bus called the BBQ bus. There were plenty of stops along the way including the Mirror Lakes and Te Anau. We stopped for lunch at Cascade Creek where we went for a walk through a beach forest to Lake Gunn and back while our driver cooks us all a scrummy BBQ lunch by the creek, However we seemed to eat more sand flies than food but enjoyable none the less. After lunch we continued along the Milford road which is quoted as being one of the most beautiful drives in NZ and we would have to agree. Driving through the mountains with waterfalls and glaciers on either side was great. We had the opportunity to stop at various points and one of the favourites was the Chasm, which is a waterfall that has carved formations in the rock (think a bit like like the skull cave in the goonies but outdoors in the bush). Having got to Milford Sound we boarded the boat for a cruise along the Fjiord to the Tasman sea, we saw the usual stuff like Mitre peak but we were also lucky enough to sea a seal and more amazingly a whole pod of dolphins swam along side our boat into the sound which was absolutely fantastic. The day was a really long 13hours but well well worth it.

BBQ-Kit-Bus!!?
I should have thought that you would not have gone near anything with the words "BBQ" and "bus" with Kit. You had a guide (who brought his own BBQ) so that counteracted the "Kit luck" I suppose. Lisa, what are doing eating sand flies, are you not veggie anymore?
