Walking in ZagrebWalking in ZagrebWalking in Zagreb

This is one of the main streets in Zagreb, right off a big square. It kind of captures the feel of the place.
Yesterday I did my sightseeing in Ljubljana, seeing the huge Saturday Market, some of the important buildings, several squares, a famous architect's house and such. It was a lot of fun, but not really that interesting for pictures. Had lunch at the same pizzeria that I had dinner at the other night. It was just as good. I had checked out of the hotel and left the car in the hotel parking lot, so I was able to wander around at will. Around 1 I grabbed the car and headed to Croatia.

The drive was very easy. I had been on the roads around LJ enough that I knew where I was going. For the most part it was a freeway, although there were a few sections where they are building it, so it is a small 2 lane road. It took less than 2 hours. The border into Croatia was nothing like going into Slovenia, where I didn't even have to stop. Here, I had to stop 3 times, give my passport and have it stamped twice.

To be honest, I was concerned about finding the hotel. I was not able to get directions from their website, google

or anywhere, so I was flying blind so to speak. All I knew was that I should follow any signs that pointed to Centar and hope for the best. Thankfully they had signs pointing the way to the different hotels once I was close to Centar. It was so easy to follow the treasure hunt and get to the Palace. It is a very old, elegant hotel. Changed money into Kunas, which look similar to Euros, so I made sure to put all my Euros in a different place.

The weather is so nice here. It is sunny and warm, much too warm for a coat. I went into a coffee shop as one of my first stops, and when the clerk heard me talk, he asked were I was from and then said "What are you doing in Croatia?" He was shocked that I would just come to Zagreb for vacation. Guess they don't have that many tourists here, or at least maybe not this early in the season. I don't know, but I thought it was pretty funny.

I took yet another funicular up to the top of the hill and walked around Upper Town. Zagreb

Loved the tile roof on this.
really doesn't have that many tourist sights, so this town is mostly about resting, drinking coffee and getting ready to head back to the States. I was planning on driving 2 hours to do some hiking today, Sunday, but you know, I just wasn't up to it. I have hiked, climbed, seen, looked at, examined, viewed, marveled at............. Right now I need to time to just sit and recuperate before that 6:45 AM flight Tuesday. Sigh.
