An Explanation

Some of you may have noticed that we have been rather quiet over the last few days, so we thought an explanation was neccessary. A couple of nights ago, after posting the last blog entry, dad knocked the power cord out of his laptop as it was shutting down. The effect of this was that the laptop lost it's brain, and refused to turn on again.

To remedy this problem we went to FNAC, a massive computer store here in Paris. We were told that the computer could not be fixed (and though we have a fair idea on how to fix it ourselves, the language barrier (not to mention the unhelpful disposition of the main tech), meant that we had to send the computer back home (which we have since done). Our decision then, was to buy another laptop. We were lucky, and found an employee of the store who spoke english fluently (or at least more fluently than we speak french - which wouldn't be hard).

He informed us that by buying a particular Vista upgrade, we could change the text on the computer from French to English. When we tried, and failed, later that day, we returned to the store, found he was gone, and again were sent to the unhelpful tech employees. After working out that the man we were talking to knew absolutely nothing, we gave up, and resolved to return the next day.

This morning we return to FNAC, and hopefully our laptop will speak english to us by the end of the day. Stay tuned for the next update!
