Heya guys, sorry this has taken slightly longer than expected in coming, been spending the days walking and talking, and the evenings drinking (though no voddie...yet).
St Petersburg is a beautiful city, its a shame that we dont have more time to spend here, as there is still a lot to see. We leave for Moscow tonight on an over-night train, midnight through till 8am...i reckon i will be hurting tomorrow!!
The group im with are awesome. I met two aussie girls at breakfast on the first morning, Nicki and Stacy, and they are grand. Freakily, Stacy worked at O Bar in Leicester last year, and for all you american studies people, she knew becky godridge too...tis a mighty small world!! There are 4 Irish folks on the trip, from Galway, and they are cool, plus 3 english folks....the guy im room-sharing with is unfortunatley an Everton fan, but we have managed to bypass that shameful attribute of his and he is your very funny, jolly scouse, and as yet nothing has been robbed!!
The snow here is awesome, and i know weather isnt the most enthralling of subject matters, but when you are in a place like Russia, it kind of directs the pattern of your days. Foot deep in places and at night it makes the city even more pretty than it already is. Last night was good craic, we went to a Jagermeister-themed restaurant and had litre-jugs of local brew, heavy and hard to down, but bloody lovely. The frankfurters and sauerkraut was good too, and the barmaids of course gorgeous, which fulfills man's basic needs....women, food, and beer.
Russians at first seem moody and unhospitable, and indeed at times we have been reprimanded for it seems our very presence!! They are, however, eventually friendly, but you can see why it took the Nazis over 800 days of sieging to realise that they weren't going to get past these stubborn people. Our guide Olga is great, a bit loopy and with an odd sense of what constitutes a good drinking game, but fits into the dynam,ic of the group fantastically.
We offered our services at the KGB museum today, fascinating stuff, very James Bond-ish, as expected. Im off now, to get some more Russian grub and coffee, with the next port of call being Moscow. On saturday we begin the 4 day train journey to Siberia, which everyone is really excited about, and hopefully i will find the arsenal fan im looking for out there, otherwise i know barry and jonny will be highly disappointed 😉

You lucky b*stard
Hey pal, Sounds like you're having a cracking trip already. Not sure about this Arsenal stuff but wil let you off. I'm guessing you're on your Siberia train now so won't get this for a few days - so when you do let me be the first to say 'I hope you had an amazing trip - now upload some photos!!!' Back in Blighty I'm seeing your older sister tonight - screening the Africa doco just off Picadilly in London and she's coming. Friends and industry types there in abundance so am a bit nervous - also managed to pick up a virus in Ethiopia (was filming there over Easter) and now have the sh*ts so tonight could be very embarassing. Obviously would have invited you along too but seeing as you're halfway across Russia figured you wouldn't be able to make it. Anyway, hope the trip continues to be most excellent. Keep the blog updated, loving your work so far. Cheers boss, Ed.
