Relaxing in the bar
This is the view we have whilst sitting in the bar/restaurant at Coasters On our return to Phnom Penh, checked into the same hotel, chilled by the riverside, which left us one day to visit the places we missed the first time before heading off to Sihanoukville. Needless to say, we bumped into Taff several times sitting in bars, chilling as you do!
Monday we hired a tuk tuk to take us out to The Killing Fields and then onto the Tuol Sleng Detention Museum. This was harrowing and very disturbing, but felt if we were in Cambodia it was something that needed to be experienced. After the visit we realised why we weren't seeing many older generation Cambodians and really felt for the people and what they had gone through. We won't write anything about it here as it is really disturbing, but will talk to you about it when we get back if you would like to know.
We checked out of our riverside hotel on Tuesday morning and caught The Mekong Express bus to Sihanoukville. This is the best by far from our experience of travelling, although you do have to put up with the Cambodian Karaoke TV blasting from the front of the bus and the frilly curtains
Bamboo Island
Bamboo Island is in the distance, where we will be spending 6 nights around the window. But the air con is good, you get a bottle of water, a piece of cake and the seats recline. All this for $6!!
We arrived at Sihanoukville at 12 noon and caught a tuk tuk to Coasters, hoping they could find us a room as we were four days earlier than our booking. (I booked Coasters and Bamboo Island from UK before our departure to make sure we could stay). As it happens, they had a bungalow for $10, just a path away from the beach, verandah, electric fan with bathroom, cold water only, but believe me, you wouldn't want hot water anyway!!
We retired to the beachside bar for lunch which you can see from photographs was spectacular and looked out to sea at Bamboo Island. On the photo looking out to sea, it's the island standing on its own with a peak. We have to wait until 20th to sail out to island as we have booked the larger of the bungalows with ensuite bathroom. And this is for just $20 per night. We will be staying on the island for 6 nights, which is longer than we originally planned, but we
Dave chillin'
Caught Dave in this "unusual" pose. Don't know what he thought he was doing here? managed to get down to Silhanoukville earlier than expected. And after the hectic travelling we've done, we're not complaining and it is well needed before heading out to Saigon and then onto Bangkok.
As you would expect, we won't have electric or internet access whilst on the island, so you won't be hearing from us for awhile. So, please don't worry about us laying around in the sun, hammocks and snorkelling in the warm sea, we're truly ok!
PS. Hope the party went well on the 16th for those who attended. And Mum, we have been getting your messages, but because they were sent as messages and not comments, they can't be seen on this page.
Lots of love to you all. Speak soon.

Greetings from Posset
Hi you two, I've been following the blog, you are doing well to keep it updated so regularly. Sounds like you are having a great time and the Island sounds very restful, reckon I could hack that bit. We haven't started to panic about the dinner party yet, but give it a week and we will be! Some snow is forecast for the Easter weekend, so we are off to Devon in the van, we must be mad. If they don't have hot water there will be a riot! Take care, see you soon.
