Surfers Paradise
me and Niko and the meter maids.......they protest against parking tickets in the town!! finally left sydney and headed north up the east coast..........travellin on a hop on hop off bus callled the OZ Experience......so far so good and have met loadsa new folk!!
first stop was surf camp at a place called Arawara.......a really chilled out place but unfortunatly a never managed to surf due to my dodgy heel......however a still managed to hav some fun. we had a beach party at nite with a bonfire and some music.....and plenty of Goon....cheap australian 'wine'......the party turned rather messy with people crawlin home and fallin a sleep on the beach!!
then we headed north upto Byron Bay which is really chilled out.....hippy heaven....weather was good too so it was just a matter of chillaxing down the beach then hittin the nite spot called Cheeky Monkeys, it had a right Club 18-30 magaluf feel to it....drinkin games etc. and cheap meals from as little as 2 bucks for pasta....cheap cheap!!
met up with a guy called Gavin McGuire a ken (know) from fawkirt (falkirk) so it was good to catch up with a few scooners of beer in byron bay!!
hung about with a german guy who's a bit of a character, an english,
Surfers Paradise
up the Q-tower with the coastline behind!! irish and argentinian guy......murder tryin to talk to everyone.....a think everythin was repeated more than once over!!!!
left Byron Bay and headed up into Queensland 'the sunshine state'.......and stopped off in Surfers Paradise.
it has lots of highrise buildings including the Q tower.....the tallest residential building in the world.......and miles and miles of beach.......headed out with the german guy, Niko, and went up the tower and went jet boating in the river.....good laugh.
Surfers is where the asians and australians go on holiday......a bit like us headin to spain or even florida......it has sea world, water world, an aussie MGM Studios and theme parks!!
as a hadn't had ma hair cut in 3 months a decided that it was time for a wee trim so headed to get it cut in surfers........looked in the window off the nearest hairdressers and there was an asian girl about ma age....so a thot it was a safe bet to get it cut there.......well this woman who was about 70 came out a cupboard.....she was the hairdresser and the asian was the apprentice.lol. by this time it was too late....a was seated and had the gown on so a was kinda stuck........so
Surfers Paradise
view of the coast and river from the Q-Tower!! she began cuttin, but she was cuttin it dry....no water at all....so a quizzed her and she said...' a can cut anyway, wet or dry....but wot u want is better done dry!!'.........no sure about that.....and a think the way this old age pensioner cut ma hair made me think that for all the years ma mum and sister have cut ma hair a just haven't appreciated then enough!!!
it was that bad that a actually said to her to shave it with a guard 2 all over but she said it wud look better the way it was........yeh, the way it was wen a walked in not the bloody way she had cut it!!!!
then it was up to Brisbane for a few nites.....met up with some folk from Byron Bay and a guy a met in melbourne 4 months ago. was plannin to go to the castlemine XXXX brewery but cause a was here over the weekend and by the time a got out of bed with a hangover a missed the tour!! was raining on one of the days so a ended up at the cinema watchin 'the bucket list'.
had a wander round the city,
Surfers Paradise
everyone gets their foto taken here at the beach!! quite chilled out place....wandered through the botanical gardens then along the river.
hit the city big time one nite......went to a club voted the best in australia for the last 3 years, everyone was out their face on drugs so we never stayed long......headed to an R'n'B club....interestin times.......we were the only white guys in there as it was all islanders who were massive....and all drinkin from jugs of beer...no glasses just straight from the jug...mental!!
randomly bumped into a guy a travelled with in thailand.....so a quiet last nite in Brisbane turned out a bit messy!! also got talkin to a guy that lives in Slamanan......which is just a few miles up the road from where a live back home......small world!!
up early and still drunk we headed to Noosa.....a small quiet town where alot of rich people live and go on holiday.........went down the beach on the first day and went in the water........a was with an english lad and we got dumped on by this massive wave which through us about a bit then we got caught in a rip......which was a bit scary.....but a remembered that your meant to swim across the rip when caught
Brisbane
jenn, me, Anneli and Ritch...... a met on the bus and were in byron bay and surf camp together!! in one......so eventually a got out of trouble and was totally knackered.....energy just drained from me after fighting the rip!!!!
went to Australia Zoo........steve irwin's zoo. really good and u were able to like interact with the animals...like hand feeding the kangaroo's and touching baby alligators and koalas!!!
steve irwin is an absolute legend......there is a massive tribute to him which has messages from all over the world......the guy caught his first crocadile when he was only nine....and it is still in the zoo today!!!
long and tiring day but well worth the effort in getting up early!!!
was out at nite with a few english guys who are friends with the guy a met in brisbane that a travelled with in thailand, and a nite out with a couple from Norway......another boozed up nite.....all good times!!!!
had a few nites in Rainbow Beach.....really small town with not much there.....don't think there is even a pub.....headed of in the mornin to feed some wild dolphins....was ok but not wot a had expected.....a was thinkin more like Flipper that used to be on the tv.....that the dolphin wud come out the water kinda standin up and tak the fish.....but u
Noosa
Johnny, me and Jens the Noggy!! just submerged your hand under the water which was knee deep and they took the fish from you.......just another thing that a can say av done!!!!
there is also the Carlo Sand Blow near by so we headed up on a free guided walk which was really good.....the guy explained alot of stuff includin the history of Australia and Aboriginal People.....the sand blow is a natural thing where sand has blown from the beach and gathered in some bush land and has slowly grown over the years and is movin further inland by a meter every year.......and there are about 72 or 74 different grains of sand here...hence Rainbow Beach. watched sunset as we ate some dry crackers and drank some water.....wud have much prefered a cold beer and a burger mind!!!!
