Well here I am back home in Falkirk and it is as if I've never been away.........it has been the best and quickest ten and a half months ever!! From my travelling experiences I can tell you that, travelling broadens the mind, expands the waist line and finally drains the bank account..........so the next step is a job then the gym. since I've been travelling I've been on 23.5 flights (the half is cause I jumped out of one of the planes) slept in 94 different beds, met hundreds of different people and been in 10 different countries and loads of stories to tell..........a great experience and would recommend it to anyone....you would not regret it if you done it!!! Highlights - learning to scuba dive, doing my sky-dive, doing the bungy jump, sleeping in swags ... read more
After leaving LA, New York was my final stop on my Round the World journey.........and while I've been travelling for the past ten and a half months I've landed on my feet on several occasions including, staying with Mick, Susan and the kids in Melbourne, staying with my mum's friend Pam in Sydney when I fractured my heel and then in LA when I stayed with girls I had met in Mexico........well my luck wasn't to change when staying in NYC.........I travelled with an Irish lad Alan during my time on the east coast of Australia and he has stayed in NYC for the past nine years and said I could stay with him when in the city.....he stays just outside of the Bronx in an area called Woodlawn.......but really it should be called.....'Little Ireland'.....cause there ... read more
After a hard fortnight in Cancun it was time to head to Los Angeles and recover for 8 days.......when I was in Cancun myself and the lads met two Brazilian girls that we hung around with for the last five days of the holiday.....and they both live in LA and offered me the chance to stay at theirs while I was here.........my first two nights were in a hostel in the Venice Beach area of LA......and the two nights were terrible....after the luxury in Mexico I found myself trying to sleep in a twelve bed dorm on the top bunk with no air conditioning.......it was horrible!!! But it was only for a couple of nights till I moved in with Vivi and Flavia.......and they only stayed a short walk from Venice Beach.....so it was all good!! ... read more
I left Fiji and headed to LA then down to Cancun, Mexico for a 2wk resort holiday with mates from back home.......it took me 38hrs, 4 flights and many hrs waiting in airports to finally arrive in Cancun....well worth it though!! for the past 9 years I've never missed a lads summer holiday, and I said before I left home that if the 10th year was going to be a holiday to Magaluf or Tenerife etc I wouldn't bother making the effort in going.....but once the lads had booked for Mexico my mind was made up that I would make the effort in meeting them there.....so I did!! I arrived a few hours before the flight from Glasgow so I hung around the airport till they arrived.....as they made their way through international arrivals I quickly ... read more
I left New Zealand for some tropical heat in Fiji......so it was back to wearing just shorts and relaxing on the beach nursing some hangovers!! The Fiji locals are really cool people......they will do pretty much anything for you and are always smiling!! I headed to Fiji with a few of the Irish I was in NZ with, Gerd, Louise, Darren and Gemma. we got booked up for some of the islands on the west coast.....first island was Beachcomber Island which is the most lively of islands.....a band playing every night and a disco like thing later on. We were staying in a dorm which had 120 odd beds in it.......really tight for space but livable for a few nights. We also met Matt and Zanna from NZ there as well so the first night was ... read more
I left the south and got a flight up to the capital city of NZ, Wellington. We got a flight as the Irish were playing the all blacks on the Saturday so we flew up on the Friday morning. The city was just full of green......and with me still travelling with 9 Irish I went out and bought myself an Irish rugby t-shirt to fit in and enjoy the craic!!! went a wander round the city and what a seen it seemed to be a decent place.....not that big for a capital city, and there wasn't that much to see to be honest. Anyway we were there to have a grand old day so we headed out on the bevvie....mainly spending our time in molly Malones or some other Irish joint. Seen quite a few rugby ... read more
I finally left OZ after about 7months and landed in Christchurch New Zealand to crap weather.....very like Scottish weather.....had a few days in the cold and rain in Christchurch before jumping on a bus and heading north up the coast to a place called Kaikora......weather was still murder and all the activities were cancelled......bad start to NZ!!! I got in toe with another 10 travelers.....7 Irish, 1 N.Irish, 1 English, a Swede and myself. next stop after Kaikora was Nelson, quite a nice city....well what a seen of it, had a few nights there and done a day trip to Abel Tasman National Park.......weather was a lot better now that we were on the west coast.......we went on a boat trip and seen some dolphins swimming next to the boat before we headed to the shore ... read more
A trip to Australia wouldn't be complete without a trip to Uluru (Ayers Rock), also a felt it would be a good adventure to end my time in OZ........so a jumped on a plane and headed to Alice Springs. a sorted myself out with a 3day 2night Red Centre Adventure Tour....there were 21 of us and all in our 20's except one American who was probably in his 50's and a range of different nationalities on board.....Scottish, Irish, Dutch, American, Canadian, Spanish, Swedish, Japanese, German and of course the token English!! The first day a got picked up at 6am and we headed for Kings Canyon........it was a long drive but well worth it when we got there. We done a 3-4hr walk up and round the top of the canyon....which included us going up 'Heart ... read more
For the past few weeks I’ve been back in Melbourne working and staying with my mate Mick and his family again. after my east coast adventure the cash had vanished and the credit card was close to being maxed out so a headed back to Melbourne for some work, got a start at the place as the last time I was here so it was all good.....apart from the 6am starts......but the 4-30am rises to watch the European football were a bit better!! What about the Gers??.....quite a boring match but at least they got the result they needed and it will hopefully keep the Celtic fans a bit quiet about their Seville final!!!! I’m a Falkirk fan remember...not a Gers man but good to see a Scottish team doing well!!!! at the weekends I’ve ... read more
Next stop on the coast was Townsville to get the ferry over to 'Maggie', Magnetic Island for three nights.......a really chilled out island and very small, reminded me a bit of Thailand in a way as a just lay on the beach all day and chilled at night with a few beers!! Met up with lots of folk I met whilst coming up the coast.....so was good to catch up with each other and share a few cold beers!! Then after three nights staying on Maggie next stop was Cairns where the journey up the coast would finally come to an end........but first we had to stop of at a crocodile farm where we were able to hold a small croc and have an olive Python round your neck and also witness the crocs being fed ... read more
