Today was a big day for us!! We moved out of Schweinfurt this week and into our new(est) house in Eschenbach, Germany. Romas had to work and spent a few days with the bigwigs in Heidleberg so I handled the move. Everything went pretty smoothly (except for the Polish packers labeling everything in Polish!!! It meant a lot of boxes in the wrong place and with 3 floors...well, you can imagine the bad words I was saying!!)
Anyway...I had just about everything unpacked, save the electronics and Romas' office, and Romas came home for the first time. He had never seen this exact house and he came home to it almost completely set up. I cooked dinner and we opened the wine we'd bought in Italy to celebrate our first day in our new(est) house, satisfied that we should not have to move again for a few years.
We have a deal that if I cook, he cleans up afterwards and vice versa. We've been eating like this for months now and so when Romas finished and started to take my plate I was surprised. I'm usually the last one to finish, but he never takes my food away!!!
We laughed and he sat back down again. We started talking and about 5 minutes later, he reached for my plate again. I thought it was weird, but I really had no idea what the rush was all about.
Finally I was finished and he took my plate from the dining room and into the kitchen. In there I could hear him clearing plates and I heard the sink running. He asked if I could come in for a second, so I got up and went in.
He was on his knee with the ring in his hand!!! He asked me to marry him and in my wonderful, smart-ass way asked, "Don't you already know the answer?" 😊 He laughed and put the ring on my finger.
After a few hugs and kisses, I started laughing when I thought of how he'd tried so hard to clear my plate! He said he'd been hoping to propose a few weeks ago in Italy, but that the ring had just arrived this past week. (Anyone who has tried to send us something knows how ridiculous the APO system can be!!) He said he'd been trying to think of a
time and place to give it to me, but that in the end, he just couldn't hold onto it and keep it a secret now that he had it in his posession! He decided that it was a perfect time to give it to me - our first night in our new(est) home. And I'm glad he did!!!
I find myself just staring at it as it twinkles in the light. It's a beautiful ring and the diamond (the 'ice' as I like to refer to it) is unbelieveable. It sparkles and shines no matter how you look at it. I ran next door to show our new(est) neighbors and friends. It's been torture not having internet or phone!! Now that we're up and running again, I have this blog and some pictures for everyone to see!!!
We've been discussing dates for the wedding...we'll let you know what we decide (and where!!!) 😊
Oh yeah, and the new house pictures are coming....stay tuned 😊
