Italy was beautiful. Not suprising that inspiration seeps from this mecca of art, music and food. They say that you don't apperciate Italy until your older, but it doesn't take a zimmer frame to get goosebumps all over when entering the tomb of saint marco, a fantastically huge and elaborate building. The top cathedrals i visited and in the top 5 places to get admission to, better than the sistene chapel! Relaxing with Kris, Naomi, Gav, Anna & Blaine also a bonus.

Its funny that you know all about venice (or venezia), you know its a floating city and you take a boat to get there, but it took me a couple of hours to find out why i liked it so much - there were no cars! It was quiet and relaxing, you could cruise the streets without getting run down by anything. Fantastic.

We went to a lace making school and a glass blowing display. The rest of the day was spent eating - like the best pasta in the world ever. Coffee also fantastic. I nearly lost my gelato, but those cricket skills came in usuful and i was able to rescue it before the hitting the ground. I should have paid more attention to orientering during PE, because you get so lost there.

In the afternoon we took a gondala ride - exploring the canals by boat. Our over affectionate (+ creepy) driver made it halirious. I didn't like him after he laughed at me for nearly capsisng the boat. It was cool everything is transported in by boat, so you see hotel lobbys' doors opening onto the canals, along with goods and people's suitcases on boats.

Venice gets the 2 thumbs up - definetly worth a visit. One of the most beautiful towns in all of europe . It scores 4th place (after Budapest, Istanbul, Barcelona)

Rocking the boat
This story is just so Kim - going to the other side of the world to almost capsize a boat in a Venician canal. Memories of Purangi Estuary flood back when the very naive DoC Holiday Adventure guide said - Öh these canoes are very safe - no-one would EVER fall out of THEM. Guess who proved him wrong!
