Some recent advice I got at a baby shower was that I shouldn´t scream during labour, because if I did the baby would go up rather than down. Instead, it would be better to put a trap over my mouth and expel the baby from below, rather than from above. I can´t quite imagine how the baby might come out through my mouth so I think I will try and follow their advice.

A couple of nights back, James and I joined a few others and walked the red light district (or one of them) in El Alto. We carried hot chocolate and offered a steaming cup to each woman that we met, hoping that it would be a slight comfort on such a cold night. It is so very cold up there. The women loved the offer and quickly accepted the gift. It made initiating a conversation slighty more feasible. We left each woman with the invitation to join us for lunch at the House of Hope the next day. What surprised me during this street visitation, was my frustration and hostility towards the men. There are so many men wandering along the street and inside each brothel, on the hunt for the satisfaction of their needs. Maybe last time I was so busy taking it all in, that I hadn't processed it enough to be angry. But this time, I felt a strong urging to find a solid baseball bat and to knock some sense into these men. When I think of the environment where these women work and then, on top of that, their personalities and their poverty, I really want to see these women experience a world away from what they know. How this will happen, we are yet to find out. But I have realised that these women are always on the heart of God and he has a way... and its never too late and change is never impossible.

Finally we have bought our tickets to come home! We will be arriving on the 29th April. The countdown has begun.

When I think of returning back to NZ, I feel that the customs surrounding driving will be the biggest transition that we will go through. It will be strange to be in a country where a red traffic light actually means stop, where seatbelts have to be worn, where other drivers pass

If I get good enough at swinging the aguayo over my head, maybe one day I can carry a baby in it. But in the meantime, I need a bit more practice.
you on the passing side, where you can't turn from the middle lane and where you can't 3 point turn in the middle of a big intersection. I'm wondering if I'm driving too much, since there are many more customs to Bolivian driving that are starting to bring on some roadrage on my part. In all, driving in NZ will be very orderly! I'm wondering how long it will take for NZ Police to pick up on the deterioration of our driving skills with a nice whopping fine. And it will be the first time in 2 years that I would have driven with a license! haha.

Good advice
Hey Julie and James! I think that is some very reasonable advice your received about expelling the little Bellingham from below. I of course am no expert in the process of child birth, so I am happy to have heard such advice myself. We are going to miss you guys when you leave, but are so happy that it worked out for you to be at our wedding. I hope we are neighbors when you return from NZ! Randy

Dont worry Julie, I have been preparing Auckland for yournew driving skills by driving very badly (bolivian style) everyday with extreme road rage, curb parkage, and a little man yelling out suburbs hanging out of the back of my white hiace van... They are reay for you now.
