Spirit of Tasmania

What a great way to arrive in Tassie, on board the Spirit of Tasmania. An exciting adventure for the girls especially as we were upat 5.30am down to Port Melbourne to board the ship. There were plenty of activities provided to entertain us for 10 hours, we managed to get in a couple of drinks in one of the many bars! Spent the night in Devonport then found a great campsite in the little seaside town of Penguin. We were camped right on the beach and stayed for three nights.

From here we day tripped to Levens Canyon, very speccy, we walked into the canyon which included 697 steps, and visited the Wings Wildlife Park where the girls held baby wombats and baby Tassis devils. We visited a mate of my Uncles and it was an interesting experience, quite a character, a whole story of his own.
More walking again, this time to Dip Falls and Big Tree.
Clancy and I did the Creative Paper making tour in Burnie, we drove onto Stanley for more Walking and climbed up the 'Nut'.soooo tiring![thats clancy's comment} A very pretty little town.

We are now camped on ' The edge of the World' at Arthur River, we have a great private campsite with camp fire and lots of wallabies.

today we went to Dismal Swamp.
There is a big slide, really big slide 110 mtrs.Dad and i went down first daddy got scared.
Same with me i got jelly legs cause it was really fast.I went down three times by my self.

From Arthur River we headed south through the Wilderness country, Very wild and rugged mountains. We put the car and camper on a ferry to cross the Pieman River and drove on to Queenstown. This is a place yoy need to see with your own eyes. A lunar landscape. The weather came in really wild and we stayed in a nice cosy cottage and gave the little camper a rest!

Next stop was Straughan, the weather gave us a few hours grace to get the camper up and down she came again. We camped at a place similar tho Windy Harbour and met a few of the locals, stayed up far to late, drank far too much and felt pretty average the next day.

We did the Gordon River boat cruise here which was an excellent day trip tho Sarah Island, the first penal colony in Australia.

We are now in the Cradle Mountian National Park, where they had snow 3 days ago, so you can imagine its a little cold here. There is a very cosy camp kitchen with many interesting people form all over. I met a canadian fella and a german girl and today the three of us climbed Mt Rufus, 1540ft, in 7 hours. There was snow on the summit on it was bloody freezing, but fantastic views. Kris and the girls had a pieceful day without me

when we stayed in strahan we thought exactly the same thing, it looked abit like windy harbour, fortunately though we didnt meet any drunken locals, sounds like you are have a great time, keep it up
