Well it’s officially over, working for the awful man and his family. I finally got paid, two weeks late. He did not make this an easy end. Last week I planned on working Monday and Tuesday then getting paid. When I got to work on Tuesday he asked if I was ready to go to Seoul. I said not really. He said “today is your last day?” I was confused. Because I thought that according to him my last day was still on the 15th. But I guess he decided to change my last day without notifying me. Then he told me that he would be cancelling my cell phone at 4pm (this was at 2pm) and that he needed my keys by 6pm so they could cancel the gas in my apartment. I was still confused. My stuff is still in my apartment and I have 8 classes back to back until 8pm. When would I get my shit out?

Earlier that day Betty tried to help me get a cell phone, but as always nothing can ever go right the first time in Korea for me. Since I’m not Korean, I can only get a cell phone from one particular company. If I wanted to open with them, I needed to turn in some documents which I didn’t have. Of course. Betty and I thought that I’d be ok with the phone situation with the holidays. In Korea everything closes down after 5pm and over the holidays. No starting or cancelling services. So we figured we could take care of it on Monday morning. Or not…

After my boss told me he’d be cancelling my phone he began naming stuff off that he would be deducting from my paycheck. Unpaid bills…ok understandable. But then he says that I have to pay for the bed quilt that they bought me when I first got here. I asked them why I needed to pay for it, I didn’t want it and that it was a gift from them. He said they wouldn’t be able to use it because the new teacher is a guy. So that’s my fault and have to pay 90 f***ing dollars for a bright blue, fleece, Tweety bird blanket. BULLSHIT. I was sick of it all so I just said whatever. I asked him for my safety deposit back and he said he didn’t know what I was talking about. He wanted me to go to the bank and get proof that he paid me 100 less for the two months. I went to the bank and got the run around. Then when he came he said he’d get it and that I should go back to teach my class. I went back and about 20 minutes later he comes back with no statement. I ask him if I can show him next week and bring back my cell phone with bank statement. He’s confused, because heaven forbid he think on his feet without his nagging wife telling him what to do. Finally he said that was ok but that he wouldn’t pay me until Monday. I say whatever.

Monday morning rolls around and we planned on meeting at the school at 11am. I get my cell phone figured out and I get to the school at 11 and guess who’s late? I call him on his cell phone. He sounds like he just woke up and said he’d be there in 5 minutes. He comes with his wife and we sit down and try to figure out how much my paycheck will actually be. He tries to charge me another 10 for the bed quilt. I say “WHAT?! You said it was 90!” He says sorry. And then I say that I also want to be paid for the three days that I worked in February. He says ok. We finally get things figured out and then he says that he wants my alien card. I said I gave it to immigration when I changed my visa. He said ok, then let’s go to the Immigration office. I don’t understand why and tried to get out of a pointless trip by saying that I have to be somewhere, but he is determined to go. I said whatever. We go and wait an hour just for them to tell him that we don’t need to come. He wanted them to stamp my passport visa with a void. I don’t know why. I have to ride in the car with him. I fake sleeping so he doesn’t talk to me. But I can see in his eyes through the rear view mirror that he is pissed! He kept asking me about my friend Rebecca that I was suppose to meet. He wants me to spill that she was the old coworker. I lied and said she was a student. We go back to the school. And he finally puts my paycheck in my account. I tried to say bye but he just walked out the door. IT’S OFFICALLY OVER!!!!!

It’s over for me but obviously not for them. Betty told me today that he asked her to be honest with him and asked where I was going and what school I’d be working for. She played dumb. I’m finally done!

Aside from work, last week was Lunar New Year. I hadn’t really thought about what I would do with everything going on with work so I decided to stay in Daegu with my friend for the extended weekend. It was so relaxing to just chill and not do anything. We ate way too much food and started our Sex and the City marathon, which will continue this weekend. It has been nice. But of course the weekend couldn’t have gone by without a little bit of drama. My friend and I were at dinner one night and I got this call from a random number. Low and behold it was my old co-worker David. You know the one that went to the army and felt the need to visit me at my cousin’s house before he left. He called just to chat, he said he was coming home for the New Year and was wondering what was going on with me. And what my status was with my job. He wanted to meet up while he was at home and said he’d call. He’s stationed about an hour from Seoul and said that I should come visit him at this base when I move up there. Homeboy still confuses me. I’ve got enough drama with the boy situation as it is. I guess Koreans in the Army aren’t allowed to have cell phones, so he texted me his email address and told me that he couldn’t wait to hear from me. =/

After all the drama shit with my boss on Monday I decided to come to CheonAn to visit my cousin for a few days. It’s always nice to be with family and have a little distraction from all the drama that’s been going on in my life. I’ll be back in Daegu on Wednesday to say good bye to my co-workers then staying with Charmonica this weekend. My last weekend in Daegu, gotta make it a good one. Then I’m off to Seoul on Sunday. I’ve been living out of suitcases since I got to Korea. I haven’t fully unpacked since I’ve got here. Not sure when I would have to be ready to pack my stuff in 20 minutes and head out the door. It’s been stressful and annoying. I’m excited to get settled and for a fresh start. Next entry will be from Seoul! Hope you are all well. Happy Lunar New Years!!! And Happy Valentines Day!

Peace and love.
