The front door
A cute pathway leads upto the front door Yep we are back in Australia, just at the other side of the country! Which is miles and miles away from where we have visited before.
We went and changed our tickets in Auckland before we left, as our tickets still said we were going to South America so that cost us a nice ripe sum of $502 for the privilege...........lesson to be learnt do not change your route on a round the world ticket as they charge you taxes left right and centre for things you have never heard of!
We had a good flight over to sunny hot Perth where it is an average temperature of 37 degrees.....nice and warm! It seemed that when we arrived all of the hostels were full for some reason so we ended up in an area called Northbridge which is full of strip clubs and a tad rough at night! We stayed in a hostel called City and Surf which is a very manky hot place but it is cheap! We shared a 4 bed dorm with a very nice English lad called Jack who is also working here.
Last Saturday we decided that we could not waste any time
The animals
Ralf with the tropical fishtank behind him with finding a house and a job......the hot smelly hostel as an incentive! We got the paper and set about calling for places to rent, a lot of them had gone by 9am but we did find a few that we organised to go and visit. The first being one in the Mosman Park area a 20 min train ride from the city. We arrived and wondered if we were in the right place as you could not see a house as there were trees covering it, as it was set back off the road. We met the lady who owns it, who has now gone to South America as she is in love with a guy there. There is one other person in the house a guy called Kurt who is now our housemate. We really like the house and were so happy when we had a phone call saying it is ours if we want it. so here we are............
It is a lovely little 2 bedroom house in a quiet area, the house is decorated very tastefully she is obviously very artistic. The garden runs around the house with shaded areas, small pathways and a fish
The Garden
little secret garedn feel to it! this is small part of the garden at the back of the house pond. The house also comes with 'Ralf'. Ralf is a a cute dog who is scared of everything it seems ha ha ha. It also has a tropical fish tank which is great to sit and watch. We have settled in here, we moved in on Thursday. We are still trying to train Ralf not to sleep in our bed though...........
We are on no fixed contract to stay for a set amount of time, and to be honest the owner may be back soon if it doesn't work out with her man! We have spent all morning cleaning the house and doing the garden, as it is windy here lots of leaves and twigs fall into the garden so we have been brushing them up.
Now to the job front........We have spent all week handing out our resumes. There are lots of jobs here as everybody that lives here has gone off to cash in on the mines. Every other shop window has a sign up wanting staff. Some of them will only have Australian residents. We have registered with a few agencies too, which has been such a drama. It took us 2 and a half hours
Inside the house
This is looking the through lounge area with the kitchen at the back the other day.......they interview you then give you a maths, spelling and literacy test then you have a typing and data entry test! all for temping unbelievable!!!! By Friday we were a bit concerned that we had heard nothing from any of the places we had handed resumes at. We decided to go into a nearby supermarket which are called woolworths out here but they are like Asda not woolies at home! We spoke to the manager who gave us both a job on the spot......she is letting us work the same hours which is good. I never thought i would be working in a supermarket but they pay 8quid an hour so I don't care for that......."price check on frozen peas please" ha ha ha should be funny. We have to go on a training course on sat then start on Monday. In the meantime we have a days work in a new Ikea that is opening nearby, we are working in the Swedish food kitchen! We have also got some casual work at another supermarket which is just weekends and maybe nights.
Perth itself is a very clean place with a few museums and beaches that are
ruined by a port that all the big container ships come in at. The public transport is very efficient and cheap and you can go almost anywhere within the Perth area. The people are friendly and we have found a market that runs every Fri, Sat and Sun in a place called Fremantle, which the locals call Freo. It sells lots of fresh fruit and veg and has a bit of a hippy feel to it. Freo itself is a very busy little place and has streets lined with cafes. It is also full of English people ha ha ha! Our conclusion so far is that there is not a lot to do here really in the way of seeing different things. The nearest places of interest are quite far away, so when we earn some money maybe we will go and visit.
So all is kinda going OK for us, just waiting to start work now. We are going to see how we go with working and where we are living so we are not sure how long we will be here for........."just going with it" as usual! We are missing NZ. Pinky has doubled in weight since
Garden
It is full of areas with tables and chairs in that you can chil out on, this one is by the front door we have left and has full run of the house and there is a new fishing spot that is better than Snapper rock! We are looking forward to going back already...............
speak to you all soon xxxxxxxx
