The Amazon

Sammy and I flew to Manaus to do a 4 day trip into the jungle. Manaus is a city of around 2 million I think who gained popularity and wealth from rubber trees found in the Amazon. The Amazon River and the Rio Negro meet right outside of the city. From Manaus we hired a guide and ventured into the jungle for an unbeliavable trip.

Cougar
The best thing we saw on this trip was TWO cougars in the jungle... Thats right TWO unheard of I know, we are just that good. Our guide had never seen one and he wa raised in the Jungle.. They were chasing a Jungle Rat(???) and we came between them. The two just watched us for a couple of minutes.. Sammy was able to get 3 min of video of them (her camera was a lot better then mine, don't tell her I said that).

Spiders
This web gave Sammy a bit of a fright.. It was HUGE!!

Ant Nest / Hive
Well not sure what to call it but it was huge and the ants that built it were so small.. Amazing..

Coral Snake
So for 3 days Sammy and I had been wanting to see something Dangerous!!! Then on the second to last day we had more then we had hoped.. this little guy was hanging out right where we had just taken a bath luckly we saw him after we got out. Sammy was doing her laundry when she spotted this little guy and some of his friends..

Tarantulas
I went to use the "hut" and look who was just chilling on the wall. I found Emerson our guide and it gave him a bit of a fright as well.. I guess this one is very poisonous

Which way is up???
Nothing like a canoe ride at 6am on the Amazon listening to Tucans..

Nests
These nests were so cool and build to strong..

There is fruit EVERYWHERE... Molly I have a fruit section I am going to put up just for you..

Emerson and with a blow gun
We made traditional blow gund using trees and plants we found in the Jungle (well emerson did)..

Fish Markets
No Idea what kind of fish these are..

Manaus
If you want to go on a 2 to 14 day river trip up the amazon this is where you want to do it.. All you need is a hamock and you are ready to go..

Opera House
This was built durig the peak of wealth in Manuas during the rubber craze.. All the tiles were shiped from Portugal...
