With no love lost between me and Joberg, I got on a bus on the 6th and headed north to Botswana. The ride was uneventful, albeit long, and around 9pm I was getting off the bus and looking for Mr. Knight. An viola.....there he was, getting out of a cab in all his full Jerry-ness.
We grabbed my pack and headed toward the cab. As we were walking he explained to me that half of Gabarone had lost power (a fairly common event in Southern Africa), and our hotel was on the side with out power. This also explained why the biggest city in Botswana was pitch black.
After a short cab ride we were at the Oasis Hotel. We got to our room, and Jerry....whaddaguy...had purchased 2 little bottles of champagne to celebrate my arrival. We rapidly drank those by candlelight, then I broke out the huge bottle of Jameson's that I brought and we started to work on that.
The night was awesome (and at some point the power came back). We talked and talked, I gave Jerry all the gifts our friends sent, we looked at pictures, and we got really drunk.
The 7th was a pretty easy day (and amazingly we weren't hungover), coffee and lunch with Chris, another Peace Corps Volunteer, internet, Guinness then back to the hotel.
Went for a swim when we got back then returned to the room. Upon arriving at our room I realized I had left my bag by the pool. I walked back and got it, only to realize later that in the few min we were gone someone had stolen my camera. Thus beginning the joke that I would end up back in Seattle totally naked, having had all my belongs stolen along the way. Ugh.
Went to be early that night, so we could be ready to head north the next day to pick up the truck we rented for 10 days.
Let the adventures of Botswana begin!
