Lance?Lance?Lance?

Yesterday we rented bikes and rode them around the Versailles gardens. What did you do? ; )
For those of you just 'skimming' the blog text, I know you're out there, today's entry relies heavily on photos.

In a departure from pretty much every norm, i'll look into my 'did not make the cut' folder here, and tell you a quick few stories about the photos that I did _not_ post.

* I walked around 'The Marais' neighborhood in Paris by myself while Sherry took a nap. I snapped a few photos, had a beer, saw some art in a museum, saw pretty little square near Victor Hugo's home.
* Sherry and I saw Sacre Couer as our first sight in Paris. It's a basillica, not sure how that's different from a cathedral, but it's white, and I think the name mean's White Heart.
* We saw the Seine, that's the river through Paris. It's nicer than the Santa Ana River that runs through Redlands.
* Taking photos of the Eiffel Tower (La Tour Eiffel) at night is difficult, but I snapped a few good ones.
* Uppsala is a nice town north of Stockholm. They have a big cathedral with a lot of bricks. These bricks are red in case you're interested.
* Versaille has a lot of rooms. We saw some incredibly over-decorated bedrooms. Beds are high off the ground, but short. One bedroom we saw had a small door through which Marie Antoinette escaped the mob... temporarily.
* 'Hall of Battles' in Versaille had large paintings of France's many military victories through the years. In this, they include the 'Seige of Yorktown'. That's in Virginia for those of you keeping track. Last battle for the USA's independence, in that war at least. Washington features prominently in the painting, and perhaps also MdL, (Rawley?)\

Laundry is incredibly expensive here in Paris.

I hate Notre Dame the football team, but I love Notre Dame the cathedral.

Runes

No, not the 4th Zepelin album, legit norse runes carved into a rock, painted, and planted at the university in Uppsala, Sweden.

This should give you an idea of the scale of the place, but only a little bit. It's huge. This is the front.

10 minute light show, ever hour, on the hour. This is something left over from the millenium celebration. Pretty cool.

My camera warned me that this is blurry, but I think it's a pretty cool shot. And no, I didn't lay on the pavement to get this one, though we saw many people doing this.

Camera fun in the Hall of Mirrors. Unfortunately, 2/3 of the hall is being renovated and is 'all covered up'.

Jack and Meg tear it up at 'Le Zenith' in Paris. Strangely, even though they're called the _White_ Stripes, the color red features very prominently in their costumes, set decoration, album art, etc.

White Stripes in Paris
Cool--going to The Eternal City to check out White Stripes: that's serious indie cred right there. Would that be more or less cool than me checking out Marah at a disco in suburban Barcelona??

duplicate "tower from below" pics
I think you can mark one of those "tower from below" pictures a duplicate of the other. Cool pictures!

Cory, why don't you go around wearing a beret, a sideways-striped shirt, a neck-bandana, and an "American" cigarette? You could argue the point of Derrida's "Of Grammatology" with an Algerian dissident! My fav ex-pat place in the WORLD is Shakespeare and Company...very close to Notre Dame, on the Left Bank, I think on a corner.
