Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep Rajvoravihara

Mountain road side stop off.
The ride up the mountain to the temple was amazing! The stuff that motorcycling dreams are made of, with smooth winding roads, & amazing views.

Steps to the temple
306 steps lead to the temple.The baulestrades resemble the scaly body of a dragon, with a head at the bottom & a tail at the top.

This temple is revered as being the most holy Wat in Thailand
Once you rech the top of the steps you can understand why.

Despite the presence of tourists, this place is so peacefull.

The richness if the gold & bold colours is just stunning. Photographs cannot do it justice!

I cannot imagine what the first westerners to have seen this would have thought.

The holy man
I was blessed by the holy man of the temple & he gave me a friendship band.

Story of the temple
This plaque tells the story of how the temple came to be on this site

The Bhubing Palace
Further up the mountain is the Bhubing Palace. Open to the public when the Royals are not in residence, after the opulence of the temple, it seemed rather subdued.

Palace gardens
The gardens were stunning though.

Wow trip of a lifetime
