Leaving Home
"Going travelling takes you to some amazing places!", said Jaime as they stood at Huddersfield station Hi Everyone,
Finally found some time to give our first update of the travels. We´re in Merida, the capital city of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. It´s scorchio, about 30c and though we planned to be here for a couple of nights, it looks like an interesting place and there´s a cultural festival on, so we´re going to stay a bit longer.
We´ve already ´done´ Miami. Highlights were· (pardon my grammar, I can´t find a colon on this keyboard!)
Accidentally walking through Miami´s apparently very popular nudist beach (made sure we looked at the sea for 10 minutes).
Nice hotel on the beach, though our room looked like it had been part of the set of Miami Vice, and not updated since.
Great window shopping on Lincoln Drive, accompanied by a massive rain shower.
After Miami we flew to Cancun on Tuesday for one night before getting a bus to Chichen Itza which is a big Mayan ruin site. We stayed in a plush but not too expensive hotel on site, and had a glass of Cristal* with each meal. This site was excellent and because we got there when it opened, we had it
virtually to ourselves for an hour or so. There´s some photos to go with this update. Check ém out, they´re great.
Well, we´re off for some enchiladas now and we´ll either update when we get back to Cancun in around five days time, or wait until we´re in San Francisco. Hope you´re all well.
Best Wishes,
Martin & Jaime

Nostalgia
Wow you are all over Mexico already. Chichen Itza is quite amazing. The decapitation murals are quite something to remember. Not sure if it was the winners or the losers of the ball game that got beheaded. We saw it in '65 and again a few years back - day trip fom Cozumel. Bought Philip a small guitar in Merida which we still have. He was 1 at the time! Cancun was a fishing village back then. We took a yacht to Isla Mujeres and left Philip with friendly villagers. dived for lobster and conch, then cooked over a wood fire on the beach - happy days.
