We let the natural rhythms wake us up this morning, and after deciding it was too dark to do anything at 5:30am, got another 2 hours of sleep then prepared for our 400km round trip to the glaciers Franz Josef and Fox. Just 13km into the drive we found a one way bridge that was shared by the train...hmmm, makes you wonder about the engineers here. Half way to the glaciers, we stopped for a pee and ended up in a helicopter seeing the peaks from the Lord of the Rings movie's. Lasted 20 minutes and was a great ride for the first 18, then my door opened, after I started getting motion sickness (we saw a deer and did some very fancy moves that put me over the edge)...Penny was very helpful when the door opened, the first thing she grabbed for was her telephoto lens, then asked for the car keys..haha, all I could do was laugh. So, back on the road, we found the glaciers. Very nice, and very cold...cold for summer that is. Very impressive, so much that we agreed to see the Fox, though I had already handed the keys over to Penny as I was still trying to recover from the helicopter, weak boy! Off to the Fox we went, and it was equally impressive, we even got to see some of the ice falling from part of the edge. We turned around and back to Greymouth we went. Almost an uneventful drive, but the Kiwi's, always wanting to entertain guests, we managed to see one riding his mountain bike down one of the twisting highways with nothing on. And for Penny, since she was driving, got a very nice view...she was smiling the rest of the ride...lol. And now we are ready for our train to Christchurch, already got our minds on Sydney and the new adventure. We saw a movie tonight, funny, me going to a cinema. It was called "A death at a Funeral". Well worth a look if any of you have time, though not a family movie for those of you under PG in our reading audience. So, tomorrow is Arthur's Pass, and a night in Christchurch, we will see what this country has for a swan song.
