My appologies for such a late entry however the internet is still in its infancy in Fiji so its had to wait!

Day 16 10th December 2007 Lima to Los Angeles

Whilst waiting in Lima airport for my flight to LA for what seemed like forever I noticed yet another delay posted on the departure boards. My flight was due to leave at 00.40hrs and the new departure time was now 3.30hrs. I did however notice another flight bound for LA at 00.30hrs so I asked to be moved and LAN Peru staff kindly agreed, result!
I arrived early into LAX and called a shuttle bus to take me to the hostel at Venice Beach. I had a walk along the front and grabbed some breakfast before checking into the hostel and then hiring a bike to ride up the coastal path past Santa Monika. I arrived back at Venice Beach in the afternoon and relaxed for a while before having some dinner and then grabbing a few beers and taking them back to the hostel common room where we all had a good chat and a generally good evening.

Day 17 11th December 2007

Venice Beach, LA

I woke up this morning with the intention of getting a bus downtown and seeing a bit of LA, however my ankle was really playing up. Now let’s apply a little common sense here, the medical services in the Yasawa Islands in Fiji are going to be non-existent so let’s get some attention whilst in a big city. So I headed down to the nearest Emergency room where after some initial confusion regarding my travel insurance they eventually took some X-ray’s and gave me an ultrasound scan (No I am not pregnant, it was to check for DVT after the flight from Lima) The good news was that nothing was broken and no DVT however the bad news was that they placed my ankle in a removable plastic cast and put me on crutches. I headed back to the hostel with any hopes of seeing LA now down the drain having spent nearly five hours in the hospital.
The good news was that whilst at the hospital Marco and Neil (from the Inca Trail) had arrived back in LA and had emailed me wanting to meet up. I spent the remainder of the day checking out and using the internet at the hostel to catch up on a few things. Marco and Neil came around to pick me up and we went to “Fat Burger” for eats (cheers Marco) before they dropped me at LAX.
The one advantage of being on crutches is that you don’t have to cue at airports. I was pushed to the front of all the lines and what could have been a very long check-in process turned into a pleasant twenty minute process. The flight to Nadi in Fiji was on time too, hurray!

Day 18 12th December 2007 Above the Pacific

Quite surreal, this day was lost crossing the International Date Line. World you owe me!
