Hi everyone!
Just got back from Los Glaciers National Park. It was fantastic - although much colder than I anticipated. And the wind was worse.
Sorry about the pics in the last blog. Seems that the internet in El Calafate is particularly slow (dial-ups and satellite don´t mesh well) so I couldn´t upload the pics like I thought. I´ll try to get a bunch up when I get to Chile - it may be better.
The trip was four days of hiking in the Los Galciers N.P. Spectacular scenery as you can imagine. I can just guess what it would´ve looked like with less clouds. We (I´m part of a tour until tomorrow) got lucky with the weather, actually - good the first two days and bad the next two, although it could have been worse. Got to hike on a glacier (crampons hurt when you stomp on your own leg by mistake) and try some ice-climbing. It was very cool - literally and figuratively - but I don´t think I´ll make a habit of it.
Also experience some pretty ferocious winds. I know I´m going on about the wind, but seriously - we´re in a forest, a good 100 yards of trees around us, sheltered valley, and then you´d hear in the distance the sound of a locomotive, or a tornado, and it would get closer, and closer, and you´d think, well, that must have passed by and then wham - the wind would hit and the tent would flatten momentarily. And the guides say this was pretty much average.
Good times.
Having a blast so far, and I´ll add to this after I get to Chile. My first land border crossing tomorrow as I take a bus to Puerto Natales. Wish me luck!
Mike

Too bad about the weather Mike, those border crossings can be sketchy.
