Farewell Beijing

Goodbyes are always hard

Well, this will be my last post from Beijing as I am getting ready to go to the train station and catch my train to Xian, so just a quick one.

This morning I wandered over to the Temple of Heaven. It was very nice, the parks were very peaceful and people were enjoying themselves; singing, picnicking, exercising. On the way back I passed some of the older Hutongs which are being torn down in the name of progress. It is a sad sight, that loss of history in favour of a shopping mall.

My impressions of Beijing have been amazing, it is a wonderful city: amazing food, amazing people, amazing sights, and loads of fun. I can definitely recommend Beijing as a great place to spend some time here. I am actually a little sad to leave, I have enjoyed myself so much here: at the hostel, travelling around and I feel that I could stay for a few more weeks. But as much as I have enjoyed it and want to stay the show must go on, so with a little hesitation I will be boarding my train and leaving for Xian at 5.20pm. Who knows what lies ahead, but if the rest of China is this easy-going, this much fun and this interesting then I will be a very happy man.

Anyway, as I said it is a short post today. I will be on the train for 14 hours so my next post will most likely be Tuesday night from Xian.

Hi Matt, Beijing sounds like it has been magical but really it has only been the beginning of your adventure. Whilst at the Temple of Prayer for Good Harvests I hope you stopped and thought about our situation here in Oz ! Ahhh in the name of progress - such a wonderful thing, very sad I agree. Hope the train was OK..D x
