It's raining and it won't stop
In front of the palace. It's raining, it's cold and it's closed! :( Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and ate lots of delicious food. I spend the past few days in CheonAn with my cousin and her family. It was great. I got in late on Thursday night and woke up early Friday morning and got on the subway for two hours to go to Seoul. I went to get my certificate from the Embassy only to find that when I arrived that the department that I needed was closed. Before than I spent about two hours trying to figure out how to get a Money Order in US Dollars, which I finally got and when I arrived at the Embassy found that I couldn't get what I needed.
I spend the next few hours wandering around Seoul and met up with an old co-worker from my college days at the Seoul Museum of Art. It was just my luck when we got there and found out that the museum was closed because the Van Gough exhibit was opening the next day and that day was for the press. Mike and I decided to go get coffee upstairs and talked about life. It was nice to sit and
It's all homemade!
Can you believe I helped make all this?! catch up and have a long conversation in English. We managed to get into one of the exhibit rooms to see a few paintings. After the museum, we went outside to find that the rain had picked up and decided to make the most of the day and check out a famous palace. After searching for awhile, we found it through mud puddles and noticed that the ticket booth was closed. At that point we were starving and decided to get some food. I used the little Korean I knew and ordered something for the two of us which turned out to be pretty good. After dinner we parted ways and I was going to head back to CheonAn, but David called and said he wanted to meet up and talk before he had to go to the army. He said he was on the bus and about two hours away. I decided to stay in Seoul a bit longer and meet up. He told me which subway stop he would be coming into and I slowly made my way around there. I was about four stops away when he called to tell me that he was stuck in a
The family
My cousin HyoJin and Woody, their kids, Hansel and Henny and me traffic jam and would be late. He asked the bus driver how long it would be and he said about an hour. I had to get on the subway or KTX before 11 to get back in time so I decided to head home.
Saturday was a relaxing day at home; we got a few things ready for our dinner on Sunday. All the sudden David called at around 3 and asked if I was in CheonAn, and when I said yes, he said good, I'm on my way. He said his uncle lives in CheonAn and he’s going to see him. At this point I'm so confused. He asked where my cousin lived and how to get there. I hand my cousin the phone and she gives him directions. About 2 or 3 hours later, he comes over and it was awkward. We sat on my cousin’s couch and drank tea. And about 30 minutes later, his cousin comes and picks him up. Now my cousin and her husband's giving me shit, saying that he likes me and Koreans have a different way of dealing with it. Going to get coffee is considered a date, then I think about the last month: we went to a movie together, dinner together, got multiple drinks together, in his head, he must think I like him. No, no, no, no, no. Anyways, he left and I was so confused why he was so adamant about coming and seeing me.
Sunday was "Thanksgiving" and we worked all afternoon to make dinner; homemade stuffing (which was really good), our own concoction of yams, and a turkey so big, we didn't have a plate to put it on. Nonetheless, it was good food and a great time. Later that night, I was laying in bed reading and my phone rings, I look to see who it is and it’s David. I answer it and he asks me how my day was and what I did. We talked for a bit and he said he was at a coffee shop with his best friend, but wanted to say bye again (for the third time).
Monday morning I woke up at 5:30am to catch the subway into Seoul to see if I could figure out my visa stuff again. I get to the Embassy and wait for the Department of Homeland Security to open, they finally open and they say that I can’t file for another certificate in Korea, but they can give me some information (over the phone in about 4-5 days), which I will need to write and get notarized by the Embassy and that would be sufficient for Korean Immigration. I grab my stuff and head to the subway station to catch the KTX; I check my phone while I’m running down the street and see a text message. I check to see who it’s from and find that it’s from David saying, “I’m on the bus to go to the army. I’m gonna miss you, take care of yourself.” I don’t know what to make of this situation! I catch the KTX and get into Daegu with an hour to get to work. After riding the subway, a bus and then catching a taxi, I finally get to work with about 5 minutes to spare. Work was long and the kids were so bad today! I am finally got back to my apartment this evening and I never thought I’d say this, but it is nice to be back.
This was such a long weekend… fun, but long!
Also, the red dots are back on my arms and body.
Peace and love.
