After several days in Playa, there are alot of things that are becoming clear. The first one is that I have to stay up until 6AM to get a chance at the computer. The other one is to never argue with a homeless Mexican guy with no legs who claims Iowa is his home town - he will chase you down the street in his wheelchair and tell you to f#$% off. True story.

The last couple days have been interesting. It rained again yesterday, so there wasnt a whole lot to do. After spening too much time in the room I found that I could pass the time by watching the ants crawling up the wall in the room. I did get to visit Walmart again, which is much better than any American Walmart. After buying something that was $5 American (50 pesos) and giving the cashier a $10, I had to wait for 20 minutes to get $5 in change. Several of my friend have had similar experiences - you have to pay in almost exact change, which is a problem because the ATMs pay in large bills.

Ben the Australian has moved on to Cancun so that he can catch a flight to America before heading back to Australia in December. In his place we have gained a crazy Englishman named Matt. He is the stereotypical English guy - loud, crazy, and drunk at 8AM every day. Today Matt was supposed to visit the Mayan ruins in Tulum, but when I mentioned a relaxing day on the beach he decided to tag along and buy 2 cases of beer for the trip. Needless to say, the first few days havent been quite as quiet as I had planned for, but its been great.

We went to a local bar tonight, and it was interesting to say the least. After sitting around for about an hour, people began getting hit in the head by flying cockroaches, and these were BIG roaches. After withstanding that, we had a random American come up to our party. He was an absolute wanker as the Englishman called him, and he got in a fight with our guy from Minnesota. He got body slammed into the street, and the Mexicans came out to make him go home.

The Englishman Matt has become convince that he is going to marry a girl that he met here tonight, and apparently I am up for best man. Several of the Dutch guys we are hanging out with are headed home tomorrow, but 3 more are staying on for another week. They are hilarious, and their English is perfect, so I am really glad to have met them.

The beach in Playa is great, but it takes alot of patience to tolerate all the tourist sales offered by the locals. The decision to come to Playa was great, and I think I will learn alot about my future from my time here. Plus, even if my Spanish fails me, I can do an excellent English accent now thanks to Matt. I have also learned some vulgar Dutch phrases from the guys from Holland, so I guess I can say I am tri-lingual.

My only regret is missing my family and Ciara, and I already look forward to seeing them before Christmas. Hi to everyone back home from Playa.
