Khao Sok national park was beautiful. I arrived there and most of us decided to jump into the river. So I wore my sandals in and cooled off before having lunch. We were staying in the most CUTE little cottages in amongst the bush, there was heaps of wild life, but we managed to keep most of them at bay with a large amount of mosquito netting on all windows and around the beds. We got a little gecko on board to eat them as well.
So after lunch we all thought it was going to be a great idea to go down the river on a tube for a couple of hours. So we all trundled off and Keryn says to me "Hey... don't say anything to the others, but there are leeches in the river. I got one on my toe, and it's all good, but it just won't stop bleeding" I was a bit "what the he he he lll..." But then I told her to tell Tommy, who was not overly sympathetic and said that -yes- they do usually bleed for about 24 hours, but that she would live. So I got over it and went
tubing which was fun, but Tommy stood us up at the end, and so we waited around in our bikini's for quite some time for him to collect us! The guides were fine though, they had packed ciggies that were water proofed in plastic bags and so just chilled out! Not that they EVER chuck their butt's anywhere, they always pick them up and take them with them. Our guide B entertained us with his German. B was a bit pimp- had a huge bling ring and bracelet that he never took off... slicked back his hair and kept saying what Keryn and I thought was "Super Liquor!" but turned out that he was saying yummy in German.
There were no leeches on anyone though. I made up for the sleep the night before and had a really good one after all that adventure though.
The next day we went for a day tour of the National park for "Long boating and Bush walk through caves" (by the way none of these were included in the tour, we had to pay but they were pretty cheap.) Well the long boating was fun, and surprisingly fast, and the scenery
The view
From the cottages. was beautiful (though surprisingly like NZ). We had lunch at very cute little huts on the water. The whole restaurant was in the middle of the bush floating on bamboo and I fancied staying there... until I saw the baby snake that was asleep in one of the huts.
.
We went on the walk and poor old Anouka got leeched TWICE! We were just walking along and I was telling everyone to tell me if they saw one and then she goes "oooh... dere is vun.." and I was like "WHERE, WHERE!" and she showed me and it was on her foot! She was not phased in the slightest! So I got very paranoid, and checked every 10 metres. And then after a LARGE trek we got to the cave... And this was pretty damn serious caving. Some of the group where less than impressed that they had been told that they could wear jandals (sorry, flip flops) but I was thanking my lucky stars for my sandals... these little beauties have been with me since school and are a godsend here for staying on. They may stain my feet black but they are just fantastic! The cave had
large spiders, and bats and parts where you were totally in water and had to use ropes and everything. It went on for about an hour and a half or so... rather more extreme than I was thinking.
But we got back safe and sound, and I didn't get leeched. Got back very late though, about 8pm instead of 6 like we were expecting. Anouka was a little sad that she had not seen any tigers, but we made do with our friendly local cats, and low and behold PUMBA! Now I know why she left me! She was going to Thailand to live like a queen. She has grown some rather large balls, but apart from that she is looking really good. Check out the photo.
After ANOTHER good sleep we woke up and went by bus to the ferry and went to the islands. It was good fun actually, and I had some beer on the way over which past the time (again though, beer, public transport and toilets...not good).
I am pleased to be on the islands, and it is now 6pm and I have been doing this for a couple of hours... and
I forwent jumping into the see, pool, or getting food to make up for the beer instead of lunch to update you all. How noble😊 More from the tropical islands soon!
