Brisbane:
Not much personality here, just another Australian city. Spent a few days here seeing the sights such as The Botanical Gardens and The Queensland Museum. In the centre of the city there is a man-made lagoon and landscaped gardens which were nice to wander around for the day.
Byron Bay:
Loved it here - everyone here is so laid-back it's untrue! They are all surf-dudes and their vocabulary consists mainly of 'dude' and 'sweet'! Glynn and I immersed ourselves into the culture and donned our wet-suits to 'catch some waves' We were both pretty good I have to say, and stood up first time. As usual Glynn thought he was slightly better than he actually was and left the instructor to go and play with the big boys -and crashed and burned multiple times!! What can I say -he didn't quite fit in with his massive polystyrene beginners board!!!! I managed to drink most of the sea trying to paddle out past the big waves. Had a brilliant time.
Port Macquarie:
Stayed here for a week in luxury thanks to Helen and Martin. Was so nice to relax in our appartment for the week. Sauna, spa, pool, etc
etc Highlight of the week was The Melbourne Cup dinner with the locals. (Melbourne Cup is the Ozzies equivalent of the Grand National but an even bigger deal. People take time off work to go and see it!) In jeans, we stood out as the only backpackers in a room of suits, dresses and hats!! We had a brilliant time, met some nice Ozzies on our table and enjoyed a bit of gambling -bet $14 and won $6.60 ...oh well!! Also visited a local koala sanctuary.
Sydney so far:
Been in Sydney for 3 days so far. Its a really cool city. We've climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge and seen the Opera House and Darling Harbour so far.
lots of love
Lisa and Glynn xx
