Hi everyone... well finally arrived in nyc on sunday and it turned out to be just how i imagined, didnt prepair myself for how friendly everyone over here is though! couldnt believe it... people actually say hi to you walking down the street and ask you how your days going... weird! got the bus into the city from the airport but could only get it as far as grand central station so got off there and was met by a guy with a mini bus offering me a free lift to the hostel! thought it sounded a bit dodgy at first but he was the airport shuffle, he said he only normally goes as far as 59th st but he would take me up to 103rd this once which was nice... there was only me on the bus and dont think he came up for air the whole way there! didnt know if he was talking to himself or me... so just let him get on with it... he was nice though.
Got the tube to times square that night and had a wander round, everything is so big... and bright! Got my times totally mixed up somehow, was knackered so
went to bed early (8pm!) and got up early (6:30am) or so i thought! turned out i had gone to bed at 7pm and got up at 5:30am! what a saddo ha! the clock at times square was obviously wrong ; )
So that morning went to grand central station, its gorgeous, just reminds you of the old movies, there were the old fashioned shoe shining staions with loads of business men lined up having their trotters polished before work! went to the rockefella centre and had a wander round park evenue, maddison avenue, 5th and 6th, saw the waldorf astoria where brad and angelina lived in nyc! just a hop from the posh shops on 5th not surprisingly. Needless to say i went 'window' shopping, didnt dare go in incase they thought i was a tramp stumbling in off the street ha!
Went on my sex and the city tour, was cool, had a cupcake from their local cake shop and got to sit on carrie's step : ) (you'll only appreciate that if you watch it). Met a nice girl on it called Cynthia (from melbourne in oz) she gave me her email and said she would take
me out when i got there. It took us all through some of the trendy areas like the meat packing district, soho and greenwich village (where jennifer garner was in the park with her kid... but i missed her... gutted).
That afternoon went for a walk around central park, walked for miles, saw the ice skating, there was gorgeous dog there which looked like bono and but had its ears stuck together with glue! Walked through starwberry fields and saw the building where jonh lennon lived... and died. Got the tube to union square that night for a nosey. The next day got up early again and went up the empire state... it was cloudly though but got the general gist. Had a nightmare trying to get down to the staten island ferry but got there eventually and saw the statue of liberty, saw ground zero on the way back which isnt really ground zero anymore because theyve started building on it. Got to see macy's and bloomingdales which just made me want to spend my money so tried not to spend too long in those! Saw wall st, federal hall, new york library and then went for a walk
round china town and little italy (that was an experience but ill tell you about that when i get back). Had a look round soho again which is gorgeous then went up the bryant park (where sex and the city were supposed to be filming that day but didnt catch them).
So loved new york... managed to fit loads into three days here but would love to come back again one day and spend some money ; )
On to la!!!
