Our Halfhearted attempt to get to Snagov was thwarted by our lack of enthusiasm. We did however manage to raise enough enthusiasm to make scrambled eggs on toast again.

We navigated our way through the overcrowded metro system to the stop nearest the museum we had chosen to visit. After we climbed up out of the underground we realised that we had no idea which way was up and floundered around for a while. When we did find the right direction we walked past one hell of a building but we still have no idea what it was. It was heavily guarded by military people and had national flags but that is all we know. The picture will go up on travelblog so you never know, someone may know what it is.

The museum we opted for was the museum of the Romanian peasant which we now wonder at the madness in our decision. I think we were swayed by the description in Lonely Planet and by the lack of a more interesting museum. Once you've seen one national history museum they are all pretty similar whichever country you are in. The Romanian peasant museum displayed mostly jugs, rugs and icons and the English explanations said just that and no more details. We tried to hurry around the exhibits after the first foor, but the museum employed scary old women to spy on us. Wherever we walked one of the women followed us until we walked into a section where another woman was. The museum really was a waste of time and after looking at who knows how many rugs and jugs you really start to feel your sanity slipping further away from you.

Once we had escaped the clutches of the evil women we walked down that main road towards the Romanian Arcul de Triumf. The road leading to it was full of embassies which we have now inadvertantly become conisseurs of. The Arch de Triumf was pretty impressive to look at once we had risked life and limb getting across to it. It is situated in the middle of the most insane roundabout with about four or five lanes of traffic. It was built in 1935 to comemerate the 1918 reunification of Romania and was initially built out of wood.

Gara De Nord was one metro stop away So we went to check out train times and prices for our trip to Veliko Tarnovo tommorow. We were distracted by the fantastic smell wafting our direction from the Fornetti stall. Four cheese and four apple Fornetti later and we were good to go.

Our Second attempt at finding Bucharesti mall was massively more successful than our first. We bought tickets to see a Film with Jodie Foster in called Courage Nebuit (i don't know the English). The film wasn't to start until quarter past ten, so we looked around the mall and tried to find somewhere to eat. Neither of us were in the mood for fancy food, so I opted for a jacket potato and rice, whilst Rob had a pizza. The film was great but it did finish rather late. We began to walk the forty minute walk back to the centre but quickly realised we were completely alone. No one was walking at all, Taxis kept stopping for us and a police car even slowed down to watch us. The walk wasn't actually that bad and once we got back into the main centre there were a few more people around.

Our dorm at the hostel had been invaded by irritating, giggly American girls so we hastily retreated to the common room where the Aussie guy was chatting to an English guy that had actually lived on the same road as us in Liverpool. Weird. Our conversation revolved around the possibility of opening up hostels in different locations in Europe. Strangely enough Rob and I have learned quite a bit about buying property abroad, so you never know. We ended up going to bed at a stupid time like five in the morning after attempting to catch up with photos on travelblog.
