Last weekend I went to visit Anni for the weekend in Newbury. It was lovely to get out of London for the weekend and take in some of the countryside. The colours of the autumn trees and landscape are beautiful at the moment and its one of the things I love about England - the clearly defined seasons, which we don't really experience in Sydney. It's not too cold yet either which is nice - on average about 18 during the day.

I caught the train up on Friday night and we went out with a bunch of Vodafone people for drinks and dinner. Vodafone is headquartered in Newbury and I know quite a few Aussies who have gone to work there, as well as people from HQ who I have worked on projects with previously also. We had drinks at the Lock, Stock which is a lovely pub on the canal in Newbury. We then headed out for some Thai at the Canal Bar and headed into town for some more drinks. Things got a little out of hand but that's to be expected when catching up with friends one hasn't seen in a while!

On Saturday Anni and I went to the races at Ascot which was great - it was on my list of things to do! Anni was invited by a supplier and the tickets included meals in one of the restaurants. I brought many clothes over to the UK with me and luckily this included a dress which was appropriate for the races - in fact I bought it for that reason. It wasn't the nicest day but thank goodness it wasn't raining. We had a fab lunch in the restaurant and headed over to the track to watch some of the races. I managed to pick a couple of horses who came 3rd and 2nd so won some money which I then proceeded to spend on more horses! My formula was to pick french horses where possible (in support of the french rugby team) and it paid off. We then had a lovel afternoon tea of tea with scones. All in all a very enjoyable day!

On Saturday night Sarah and I headed out to watch the rugby in a local pub. We quietly supported the french team amongst all of the singing of england fans. What a tense game but I

I backed this french horse who came 2nd - he got a wash down after the race!
was glad it was more of a proper game with England even scoring a try! They played 'We are the champions' as soon as the game finished which I thought was a bit premature considering the final is this Saturday!

Yesterday Anni and Sarah and I headed out to Pangbourne to have a pub lunch. It was a nice day and we went to the Swan, which is rigtht on the Thames and lovely. We tucked in to roast lamb and I followed it with sticky toffee pudding - yummo!

I haven't started work as yet so hoping to get away this week for a couple of days, just for something a little different. I will write when I have more news!

Small correction "we are the champions"
England is the champion team as they won it last time. They remain champions until they are beaten this weekend (or just maybe Johnny W delivers another miracle game and they remain "champions")
