Today I woke up & had to kill a giant cockroach that was in my room. It was huge & I felt sick as I repeatedly bashed its brains in with my shoe!!! I told the others & they joked that I was now a real African hunter & my next kill would be a snake. I said if I saw a snake I would scream all the way to the airport!


I went back to the hospital for a check-up & all was good. As I walked through the town so many people stopped me to ask if I was feeling better, most of them I had never met before. Even though I am not here to directly help them, they all have taken time out of their day to show that they care about my welfare.


Tonight I read the children a story I wrote called “Doug the Hug” & an older child translated it for me. They all really enjoyed it & want me to write more stories for them. I have started a club called “The Happy Gang” where we all give the double thumbs up a pull a

This is Rebecca who became ill with malaria a few days after this was taken.
stupid happy face. This is the 1st photo of The Happy Gang. I have also taught them the “Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy song” from Ren & Stimpy (which didn’t take long!).
