To Infinity and Beyond!
After my Buzz Lightyear speech... I fall with style. After paying 65 euros in tolls through France, we arrived at 3:30AM in Geneva, Switzerland. We pulled off the road and parked in a dark parking lot and just slept in the car. We awoke to kids screaming and playing and at this point we realized we were sleeping in a elementary school's parking lot. From this point we drove into the city, parked the car and took a stroll through the most internalized city in the world, with W?O of every letter having an office here (WMO, WHO, WTO, etc...). I called my friend Marie whom I met in Perth almost 3 years ago and she let us sleep at her place the next couple nights and took us out.
Saturday we left early and headed towards my most daring thing I have ever yet done... jump off the world's highest bungee jump. To get to the jump we dove through many scenic and beautiful white snow capped mountains, of which I have not seen snow in almost 4 years. We arrived at the Verscaze Dam in mid afternoon, this dam is the same dam from the 007 movie, Golden Eye. After watching people jump to the bottom of
Checkmate!
I punish Hawk with true talent on an outside chess board. a 220m fall we signed up and awaited our plunge. By far the scariest thing is not the fall but just having the courage to actually do it and take that step. After 7 seconds of falling and a few bounces on the cord at the bottom I was hauled back up and decided on a second go as the price was slashed in half for same day repeaters.
Check out the video of my
007 Jump.
Following the jump we headed up north to Luzern, a city in Switzerland where Rebekka and Marco live who we met in the Greek Islands a few weeks prior. They were also kind enough to let us stay at their place which was very nice with a stunning view of the city below. It was also here we also met a cool guy, Chris, from Melbourne and who promises me an awesome time when I go visit him later this summer. My past experiences in Melbourne had lead me to be slightly unimpressed with the city which I found also far too similar to Vancouver. We also went to a bar called Mad Wallstreet where the drink menu prices are on a
Sheer Terror
At 220 Meters high, this jump is the highest in the world.
...And I DID IT!!!! stock excahnge like board and increase and decrease as the demand for the drinks change. After purchasing 3 beers, the price rose from 4.50 to 5.50. It was pretty cool, but unfortunately the bar was fairly empty so we only stayed a short while.
Switzerland has by far the best form of Democracy/Government that exists today. With national votes on many topics including pension plans and city designs, everyone really has a say in politics and their future there. It is also the most defended city in the world with all bridges charged with explosives inside them and mountain tunnels with food and water to house the entire population for weeks.
Monday morning we left early before sun rise to make it in to Munich for Oktoberfest and to meet our good friend Mike Kennah who would join us for the following 3 weeks through Eastern Europe. On our way we finally decided on a name for our little car, Marco, in honour of the coolest Swiss I have ever met.
