As the Aussie’s would say “it’s all good” in Melbourne. Only one week left of work before the school holidays commence. Since James can’t work we are making the most of the opportunity and heading to Adelaide for a few nights, before driving back along the Great Ocean Road. As a result there will be plenty of blog entries coming your way in the near future.

In the mean time, a quick update on our recent adventures on the tourist trail. We have been very cultural, visiting the Guggenheim collection, a temporary exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria and also a celebrity portrait exhibition at the State Library of Victoria.

Last weekend we went out for dinner in Carlton, an area of Italian heritage. Lygon Street is host to many Italian restaurants and much al fresco dining. As much as we enjoy a good Italian, (however rumours are many of the best are not located here!) we opted for our first BYO experience at Abla’s, a brilliant Lebanese restaurant with a wonderful 14 course banquet.

We went along to a mid week friendly at the MCG, to see Socceroos V Argentina. The football chants appear to be the same, just edit the word England with Aussie. The one obvious difference here is that the fans are mixed rather then segregated. Final score one nil to Argentina. Our tour of Melbourne’s stadiums continues this week at the Rod Laver Arena, where we are seeing Snow Patrol.

Probably had the best day of all our time here yesterday, splashing out on a Yarra Valley winery tour. Managed to spend a week’s wages on the tour and wine purchases, but it was worth every penny and the hangover this morning. The area is beautiful and is home to over 200 wineries. We managed to visit a mere five of them, including Domain Chandon, De Bortoli, Sticks, Giant Step and Yerling. James and I made the most of the cellar door experience sampling all of the white, reds, stickies and sparkling wines on offer, no surprises there. We enjoyed the company of only three other couples and had an excellent tour guide and can’t wait for our visit to the McLaren Vale or Barossa Valley in South Australia in a couple of weeks time. Our drunken hunger took us to the local American diner on our return to the city, where we were serenaded by Elvis.

Sunday mornings, or sometimes Sunday afternoons, see us travelling to various city suburbs for breakfast. So far we have taken in the suburbs of St Kilda, Windsor, Toorak, Fitzroy and Williamstown. Williamstown took a bit of an effort to get to and was only worth it for the view of the city. Instead of catching the train back, we took the ferry to St Kilda and I was reminded not to enter the sea, by the shark warning signs! The only breakfast to stand out so far has been at Madame Sousou in Fitzroy, which I imagine we will return to before long.

Our city bar tour continues, although we have been tempted into a number of bars which don’t feature in our deck of cards only prolonging the experience. I doubt we will even commence the city suburbs deck before we leave Melbourne in Mid November.

Work’s work. James is on a three week placement, which is a welcome relief from the early morning phone calls. I still have my filing clerk position, until Friday at least. I have enjoyed working in the city, making the most of my one hour lunch breaks. James goes of to work with his packed lunch, whilst I get to enjoy the café culture and exceptional sushi. Only thing lacking is some company, I am the lonely person in the corner with my nose in a book!

To oblige Michelle, a few pic’s of our pad.
