Well hello everyone who is reading!

We´re back on the green stuff, in Cuenca (Ecuador) after our trip to the Galapagos.

The first thing to say is that we got back from the Galapagos two days earlier than planned. This is probably something of a surprise to some of you (especially Uncle Geoff!), but for a couple of reasons we decided to jump ship before the end of the trip. The main reason is that, as Matt and Lou found, the seas in the Galapagos area can be quite rough, and some of the travelling between islands was overnight or during meal times (thanks, Captain).

Although Bridget has had extensive experience of life on the ocean waves as a child (on board ´Kingfisher´ on the River Soar at a leisurely four mph) it didn´t take long for her to be redecorating the exterior of our boat, and our toilet, in a new shade of...... You know what I´m talking about.

Jeremy also didn´t feel too good as the boat was ploughing through the waves. It was made worse by the fact that we were unlucky enough to have been given the only cabin at the front of the boat, so every time we hit a wave (every ten seconds for six hours) we were bounced out of our bed and kept awake by the crashing sound through the hull. The fact that we had three long overnight sailings, and weren´t going to see much that we hadn´t already seen, meant that we decided to skip the last few days and head back to shore.

However, on the plus side...

What we did see in the five days island-hopping was absolutely amazing. Snorkelling with sea lions and sea turtles, seeing frigatebirds and boobies (blue-footed birds!) doing their mating rituals, getting close enough to reef sharks and stingrays so we could almost touch them (whilst we were safely in a dinghy), and lots of other experiences. Don´t worry, we have lots of photos! You can see a few here to whet your appetite. (By the way, if you haven´t realised already, you can see all the pictures full-size by double-clicking on them.)

The other people on the boat were all pretty good (apart from a couple of really annoying women from, guess where, America!) The food was fab, and the naturalist guide was really good too.

So, on Friday we flew back to Guayaquil and got a bus straight to Cuenca, a reasonably large town on the way down to Peru. Today (Saturday) has been a "chill-out" day, just strolling around the town and so on. Tomorrow we´re planning on visiting the largest Inca ruins in Ecuador at Ingapirca before travelling south through Loja to Piura in Peru.

Hope you´re all well,
Love from Jeremy and Bridget.

I was never quite sure if green was your colour Bridget!! At least you lived to tell the tale. Sounds like you're having a great time, which is the main thing. Loving the humour from you both!

sounds amazing
Hi there Bridget, pictures are wonderful. Sounds as if you're having an incredible experience - I don't envy you the boat thing one iota though. Yuk! Looking forward to sharing next part of adventure with you. Jules x
