So we landed in Bangkok for our tour thing and it was certainly a culture shock after Laos!!! Our room was dearer and consisted of four walls and the hardest bed ever, plus it was more expensive than the last place (at least it was only one night). We then hit Khao San Road. Now people saty things about Vegas and Blackpool, but this place makes them look like the perfect nunnery! Greeted by a swarm of greasy tuk-tuk drivers and masses of underdressed westerners everywhere it was quite overwhelming. There is even a guy who stands in the road with a sigh that says "Cheap Bar, We don't ask for ID"!!! It has to be seen to be believed. Needless to say its not my favourite place ever.

The next day we had a wonder round the city and started to get our bearings before meeting our group that evening. Thankfully we only had one tuk-tuk encounter which we refused and ran off before we were hassled any more. At the meeting that night we met 7 of the 11 people in our group and after a briefing on what was going on, we headed out for a meal together. Thankfully we got a good group and get on with everyone really well and after tea and a stroll down Khao San again I don't think anyone wanted to spend another second in Bangkok!

The following night we got the sleeper train up to Chiang Mai to go on our Hill Tribe part of the tour. The train was really cool (in both senses of the word!) It was seats which at night fold down into bunk beds. We got the air-con carriage but it felt like a trip to the north pole it was that cold on there. The journey was fine and we passed time playing cards and then marvelling at the beds after the guy came round to put them up.

We arrived in Chiang Mai at 6.30am the following morning, all a little tired after our semi-sleepless night and early start.
