Nice place to hang out and watch entertainment. August 11, 12, 13th
We arrived in Melbourne around 6:30pm on the 11th of August. Our first impression of Melbourne was not the best. It was dark, raining, and a bit cold. We got to our hotel, The Victoria, and were really disappointed. We were definitely paying for the location. When I booked the hotel, it looked much different than what we got. Our room was horrible. We were on the first floor and all we could hear was a band playing at the bar next door. If it was a good band, I probably wouldn’t complain. The room itself was dingy and dirty. I went down to reception and asked for another room, and the only one they had was a bit better, but right across from the elevator. No biggie right? Did I mention that the hotel might have been built in the thirties and had the original elevators? Mark and I needed to get out of the hotel so we went for a walk and to multiple bars. We were in a good location but Melbourne is just like any other big city. After the bars, we were exhausted so we headed back to the hotel and put
the large suitcase in front of the door and made sure the safety chain was on. The hotel book warns guest to keep all valuables locked up in the safe or in the safe down in the office. The doors would be easy to break into since they were so old. I woke up in the middle of the night to somebody banging on the door. I kept trying to hit mark to wake up since I wasn’t about to get it. Every time I would say “Mark get the door” He would respond with “Open the door!” I was confused until I realized that it was Mark on the other side of the door. He was trying to find the bathroom and walked out in the hall instead. He must have been really out of it to undo the chain and move a suitcase.
Overall, Melbourne is a nice city, they have some really interesting buildings and it would probably be a great city to live in if you like city life. The biggest downside is that we are in Australia and wouldn’t know it except for the accents.
On the 12th (Saturday) we walked around town. The Gardens
Blue whale
I was starving. Maybe I should try the steak pies that everybody here eats. and all the parks would be amazing if they were all in bloom. The weather was ok, but big scary clouds were everywhere so we decided to go to the Melbourne Museum for awhile. On our way there, guess what we found??? TARGET. We noticed that on every block (literally every block) there was at least one 7 eleven and a subway sandwich shop. So even though was I was sick of seeing the same stores as I would back home, I was very glad to see a Target. After we went to the museum we walked back via the Target. Oh how I could have spent some money there, (if I only had some).
Sidenote: I’m typing in the car and we just passed through Berwick. Miss you Grammy and all the Canadian family. We will be there next summer, u can count on that.
After Target, we decided to have a date night. (Like we are trying to find time to be together) We went for Dinner and a movie (movie meaning, not having to entertain each other). We saw Harry Potter at the Imax theatre. It was good and a great movie to see in 3-D if
Computer
Australians first computer. Mark took this one, could u guess? you get the chance. We went for dinner at a Thai restaurant next to our hotel. I can’t stop with the Spring rolls. I think I have had them at almost every dinner. Mark and I were joking that we probably should have just gone to Thailand and Ireland since that seems to be the restaurant/bar of choice on this trip.

We are now currently making our way from Melbourne to Sydney via the Princes Highway. We woke up early this morning and went to check out. The man at reception informed us that we were booked for another night. Ugh, we wanted to see other parts of Australia, not just the city, so we decided to get the rental car a day earlier than we were supposed to and find someplace to stay as we go.
I will try to add as we go. Oh and Denise, I have checked out the toilets and they flush like the New Zealand ones. Water shoots out the front and straight down. I am going to have to knock on somebody’s door or maybe the next place we stay won’t be so high pressure and will allow time
Target!
Target!!!!!!! enough said to swirl counter clockwise. It is a big priority on my list, don’t worry.

What i would pay...
to see you trying to hit an invisible mark and have him unknowingly walk into the hallway and lock himself out of the room. (btw, harry potter was awesome in 3D)
