Leah, Hannah, Nat - The Church
The week started off well, with Brendan cooking the flat a yummy dinner, and also being cheap-movie-Tuesday, we all went down to the ‘Muppet Theatre’ at the Notting Hill for a movie. However… it was Thursday that turned out to be THEE eventful day….

On my way to work it started snowing - very exciting! plus I also managed to catch my early train - a great start to the day 😊
I went to the supermarket after work, and got my basket full of goodies, but when I got to the checkout, I found my handbag had opened and realised my wallet had been stolen!!

I couldn’t believe it! - I looked everywhere around the supermarket and couldn’t find it! - with no thanks to the rather unhelpful security guy.
Leah came down to help me and after a bit of thought I narrowed it down to a dodge guy on the crowded bus between the train station and the supermarket.

On the way home we saw two police ladies who took us to the local Police Station to make a report. While we were there I got a phone call from my bank to say someone

was trying to withdraw money from my credit card at an ATM on Edgware Road!! - Its all happening right now!

The police tried to send some units straight away, but there were more urgent things happening. I managed to cancel all my cards, including my New Zealand Visa - thanks goodness I took out card protection!

The week’s new mission was trying to pay for things like train tickets and food with no cash or cards! But thanks to Carlo and Leah I was pretty sorted - Thanks guys!!

Friday seemed to be the day for other people’s events. I got a call from Grant to say that he got fired today(!?) for what sounded to me, no specifically good reason. Meanwhile, I got a call from my sister that night to say she thought he had a tummy bug and went to the doctor to find out she is pregnant! - so very exciting to be an Aunty twice over! 😊

On Sunday, a group of us decided to check out The Church in Kentish Town. An interesting experience with a variety of entertainment, including a magician that swallows light bulbs, a

gold fish and No. 8 ball! amongst other random amusements - but all in all a good laugh.

I got a call from the police officer investigating my stolen wallet on Monday to say they are using all the CCTV camera’s in the area to try and track anyone coming off the bus and using the ATM machine at that time - I was surprised they were actually investigating it at all considering it’s London!
However, unfortunately none of the camera’s seemed to provide any useful information, so that was that.

I got my culture fix on Tuesday; Annalisa invited me to see an Italian film: ‘The Family Friend’ at the French Institute in South Kensington with some of her other Italian friends. We found the yummiest Gelato ice-cream shop - the real stuff!! - Leah we must go there!

We had our St Patrick’s Day Tour group re-union at the Shey Bu WalkAbout on Friday, which Ben also came along to for a long overdue catch up; and on Saturday, Leah and I decided to have a Tourist Day. We headed over to Westminster to have a look at Big Ben and also Westminster Abby, but it closes early on a Saturday, so we’ll have to come back another time. We walked by No. 10 Downing Street and the Horse Guard’s Parade to Trafalgar Square for a bite to eat.

We had planned to go to St Paul’s Cathedral, however, the tubes were experiencing severe delay’s in that direction, so we headed to Knightsbridge to gaze in awe through all the fancy things that we will never be able to afford at Harrods.

There was a man doing magic tricks to kids that were so good that Leah and I found ourselves in the front row, past all the kids, leaning on his table. We made him repeat each trick several times and we watched intently to try and work them out! We still have no idea how he did them to this day!!

We meet Carlo at the Albert Memorial in Hyde Park and caught the last of the dying sun as we wandered up towards Marble Arch.

Leah and I had a great day of sightseeing planned for Sunday. However we didn’t managed to leave the house until midday - faced with the decision of whether to have lunch at

home and leave even later or pay London prices for tasteless takeaway food - for some reason, this always seems to happen! Lucky for us when we arrived at Turnham Green, there was a carnival on, and we got some food from there instead.

We walked down to Chiswick House, using our newly purchased English Heritage membership to get in for free, and had a good look around the old manor house. The upstairs of the house has been fully restored to as close to original as possible, with brightly wallpapered rooms with textured velvet and walls about to buckle under the weight of a number of over sized paintings hanging everywhere. Plus everything else in the room was in gold trim - of course!

The large windows captured the vista over the large gardens and stream surrounding the house, which Leah and I promptly explored.

That evening, we went to St. Paul’s Cathedral for their Palm Sunday service. It was such an amazing experience to be in this beautiful and intricate church in the middle of London. The service was well pitched and had a number of performances from musicians and dancers, making it very theatrical. Leah and I left felling very inspired.

11 days after having my wallet stolen, I finally got my new bank cards! So could finally eat, get to work and pay people back…oh, and go shopping!
Brendan stayed over at our flat on Wednesday (since he’s homeless at the moment) before heading back to New Zealand for his brother’s wedding. Meanwhile, Leah and I were preparing for our trip to Italy with Carlo and Laki tomorrow - I’m very excited!
