Hi everyone
We have been in the North Island Now for 18 days,and have hired our very own campervan!!!! for some reason its cheaper this time of year, maybe its because it rains all the time and is soooooooooooooo cold.
arriving in auckland we had a touch of jet lag, plus losing a day by crossing the int date line left a bit confused. we bumbled about a bit until toshiaki in the tourist info office got us hot on these camper deals. we took it up for a ride into the northlands to check out the 'winterless north'. well we had some nice days then the abbey elmo effect took hold and they had the worst flooding in 100 years!!! luckily by that time we had got back to auckland to swap our broken van for another.
its taken a while for us to get to grips with this campervan lark. we seem to flood or tear up grass wherever we go!! the high/low light being a site that was supposed to be closed for
winter that was left open. in we go in search of a spot to park. well, getting in was the easy bit.

getting out involved being towed by a local giving a kiwi night tour!!! abbey tried everything to get us out the mud....including chopping boards, twigs, grass, a broken up pallete and most bizzarely..... the table salt. If you ever think that this might work when trying to free a 2 ton van from a foot of mud, it doesn't!!
the good news is we are still trucking on and made it to visit Ell's relatives in Papatoetoe auckland where we spent a few days taking in some attractions and generally having food and a chin wag!! after that we have done a whistle stop tour down to wellington through hamilton, rotorua, napier and clarkville(eh?). lots of driving but the weather has been pretty wet so trucking is good!!

Oh, you do look at home behind the wheel of that camper els! Oh, and yes, maybe you should send a search party, although I think I'm back on the right track now.
