Today was definitely the worst day so far, weather-wise. After a 2 hour bus ride, we made it to Chua Huong (the Perfume Pagodas in English). The weather was HOT AND HUMID. Then we found out that our "boat" that was going to take us to a cable car was actually a platoon, which looks like a metal canoe. Some of the locals paddled us out into the river. They're really friendly. I was lucky-my cousin found an umbrella in his backpack so for part of the hour ride the sunlight wasn't directly hitting us. The scenery was beautiful though-we had the mountains on both sides of us. When we got to shore, we started a "little trek" that wasn't so little. And it was still HOT (I am NEVER going to call a guy that now). So, sweaty and gross, we made it to the cable cars, which took us up a good way up the mountain. Then we walked to the actual Buddhist Temple, which was in a cave. It was the sight of the day. The opening of the cave was huge and looked like a dragon's mouth if you were looking hard enough. Inside was like stepping into a fridge-it was so much cooler than it was outside in the open. You could see offerings and candles on tables. Pretty cool. Anyway, the way back wasn't as bad as the way in. It actually started raining for us so the boat ride was nice and cool-there was even a breeze every now and then. I could have really enjoyed that part if it wasn't for the fact that my siblings were poking me in the side every other time I turned around. Needless to say, I was not in the best of moods and I was expecting a nice cold shower when we got back to the hotel. Alas, we didn't have our rooms anymore (we were leaving that night and my parents had already turned in the keys and everything) so my 3 cousins and my whole family had to use 1 public shower. Public showers in America are bad enough but in a third-world country...well you can imagine. After that little ordeal, we went off to the train station. And, of course, since a government meeting was going on, they had to bump us down from our "first class" room in the train to something not as nice. Just our luck. I'm surprised I slept the whole night through.
