In the fashion of all good barbeques the weather was uncooperative. We had some of the worst wind and rain of the year that day. No worries moved the party inside and partied on. Had an eclectic group from work, IEP and kiwi friends.

The big show was to be the fireworks but ended up to be a big much ado about nothing. Marcos and I had just warmed up and used about a third of the box’s contents when the overzealous New Zealand police arrived in their van. They swooped in like the DEA on a Columbian Drug Lord’s villa. The police van sped down Parnell Road with the side and back doors opened and six officers jumped out of the van before it had even come to a stop . They quickly infiltrated our group with flashlights (torches) pointed at our faces and then down to our hands.

We were given the line that they’d received a noise complaint (mind you this was 8:45pm). The party was over. We put up a feeble protest that we were preparing our grand finale, but were told that the smoking pile of spent fireworks was our finale. I was hoping that they might read the Queen’s Riot Act “By order of the Queen we order you to disperse…..” but was sadly disappointed. Oh well, I still have a box of fireworks that can used for another occasion.

My visa has been renewed for another year. Yea! I’ll see some of you shortly Aug 2 thru 10. Cheers.

You Call Those Fireworks
You call those fireworks? those are not even good sparklers here, more like smoke bombs, no fizzle. I once blew up the Bay Center bridge with a large rocket from the Tokeland Indian Tribal fireworks sale. scared the hell out of a family driving across the bridge another 4th, I had the whole Hazen tribe diving off the beach into Skagit Bay when the morter tube fell over and shot the bomb up the beach thru the crowd at head level Sober as a Baptist minister on Sunday morning. don't they let the coppers there carry guns?

Some Grand Finale!
Well Donavin, the cops should have know it was just some Bloody Yank cutting up on Independence Day. They are probably edgy with all this terrorism thing in the world. We are looking forward to seeing you during your visit to the Great PNW in August. Thanks for sharing with us. Your friend, Jim.
