Lençóis Maranhenses National Park in the north of Brazil - tha park is close to São Luis whose 155 km2 is an ecosystem of sand dunes, rivers, natural and seawater lakes and mangroves. The high rainfall wet season fills the sand dunes creating a system of fresh water lakes the most spectacular being Lagoa Azul (Blue Lake) and Lagoa Bonita (Beautiful Lake). We swam in a few!!!!!
The way to get there was a nightmare though, 5 hours on a local 4x4 truck with other 15 people (space as much as on the tube in a rush hour) and a pig!!! we had to get from Tutoia to Barreirinhas, from where we could reach the park.
what an experience!
I will try to put some photos later..........
