Two days of camping on the beach, watching capoeira and dancing the night away with friends. What more can I ask for?

It felt like longer than two days actually. Katie and Ryan (aka the Aussies) picked me up Friday afternoon and it was miraculous that we fit all our gear and me and Amy in the car to go to the beach. We did have to sit on the futon, but it worked out. We were one of the first people to get there so we could pick a good spot for our tents, in a more secluded part of the beach. We just relaxed until the night's festivities, had some kebab sandwiches. We brought our own drinks in an attempt to save money. I think that it worked for the most part. A lot of other JETs from all over Japan came so it was nice to see some of the people I met when I studied in Fukuoka. It was a mini-reunion. Of course Tottori JETs came out in full force. Friday was really good fun, but I fell asleep before everyone else in my group did.

Saturday was mostly spent laying on the beach,

swimming, napping, and making the odd trip to Lawson (convenience store aka combini) to stock up on snacks, etc. That night, my friend Asana's band, Riddim Side Groove played so it was cool to see them! I have seen them play only once before and they do like a Japanese reggae style, perfect for the beach setting. More people came to camp on the beach and the dance floor was packed that night for DJ Kaori. I don't see what the big deal was, I mean all she needs to do is play popular songs that people know and she'll be a hit. I may not be up on my DJing knowledge though. It was fun and she did a good set.

Both Saturday and Sunday I watched capoeira. Watched because I was kind of intimidated to join and I think it would be hard to concentrate having those guys teach it. They were just so fit! I mean tight abs (super defined 6 packs) and butts, I can see why capoeira would be good to do cause you would get in killer shape and then there's the eye candy too..haha. A few of the Tottori JETs participated so
Chiquita Banana?Chiquita Banana?Chiquita Banana?

She had blue eyeshadow on too...priceless.
I took photos of them. A couple videos up on my You Tube site as well. Sunday we packed up in the early afternoon and hit up Grazie Gardens for lunch followed by a stop at 31 Ice Cream (Baskin Robbins).

Another fun thing that happened was that I lost my apartment keys on the beach! I couldn't find them when I got home, all I could unearth at the bottom of my bags was more sand. I had to call my supervisor to come with the master key so we got a speed copy made for me. It was kind of nice though because my supervisor brought his son and I haven't seen little Ryo in almost a year! He is babbling now and can say "bye bye" and wave. So cute!

Yep....back to the grind, but heading to the beach again this weekend in Hamamura to hang with Strappy and the Japanese family in his town that sort of adopted him. Hope my sunburn is better by then.

What a blast!
May, what a blast you are having! I am so jealous... Hopefully you bought a cd of the Japanese reggae. I would love a copy. How long are you going to be in Japan?
