13 hours of torture!
The famous red-dirt road to Siem Reap I am here! I have survived the famous 13 hour bumpy bus ride from the depths of Hades from Bangkok to Siem Reap. Complete with a collapsed bridge and passengers with diarrhea (not me, thankfully).
I am staying in a lovely guest house a bit out of town. But I couldn't resist the $3 a night price for friendly service, a soft double bed and my own bathroom. What luxury. I have also had the wonderful fortune of being adopted by three of the funniest, good-sprited Irish girls who are staying at the same guest house. We are sharing lots of laughs and stories. Good company! And I hopefully will be able to meet them later in Phnom Penh for more adventures.
Siem Reap is a wonderful little town with lots of character and friendly people. We got our first taste of Angkor Wat yesterday to watch sunset at Phnom Bakheng. And, today was our first full day at the temples. I have never witnessed such amazing man-made architectural beauty in my entire life. The first time our tuk-tuks passed by some of the ruins I got goose bumps.
I bought a 3 day pass so tomorrow I will rent
Bridge out!
Still not sure how they managed to get 2 buses over a bridge I was holding my breath just walking across a bicycle and spend the day exploring the ruins on my own. This is just a quick little posting to let everyone know I am alive and well and enjoying the wonders of Cambodia. A truly amazing place...
