Paris
Paris......what a city!! we had five days and six nights to get around this wonderful place and it was just enough time (but still probably could of spent more here). We were all geared up for rude and unhelpful locals on our tour though actually we were pleasantly surprised. Even upon arriving at the airport people were all smiles and willing to help (helped us get to our hostel which was on the other side of the city from the airport!!) I guess you can´t tar everyone with the same brush.
First day we trekked out to Pere Lerchaise cemetary in the east of the city to visit the final resting place of Jim Morrison - it took some searching around to find it but we eventually found a number of people congregating (along with a security guard) and some clown playing "Whiskey Bar" out loud on his phone!! As you can probably make out in our pic, someone left Jimmy a can of beer and a miniature Jack Daniels instead of flowers, pretty appropriate I guess.
We got around to the usual tourist places as you do.......Eiffel Tower, Arc De Triomphe and walked down the Champs Elysee
to the Grand Palace. Visited the Catacombs in the south (I know all of you must be thinking we are obsessed with death and skeletons but where else do you get to walk around tunnels that lay twenty metres below the ground where you are surrounded by 6 million human skeletons spread thirty metres deep on either side of you??) They were exhumed back in 1785 from surrounding cemetaries when they were overflowing and rampant disease spread due to improper burials.
One childhood dream was fulfilled when we trekked out of the city to immerse ourselves in all things bright and playful at Disneyland!! Walking around feeling like we were eight years old again we were greeted pretty much straight away at the entrance by a train carrying no other than Donald Duck, Chip and Dale, Tigger and Goofy to name a few. Absolute joy..........managed to make it on all of the adult rides (a few rollercoasters and stuff) but what trip to Disneyland would be complete without a go on the Mad Hatters Tea Cup ride?? Yep - we lined up amongst the little ones to give it a whirl. The whole place is made extra special by
the fact that most of the kids are bouncing out of their trees hyped up on sugar and fizzy drinks, we actually fitted in pretty well though I think!!
Did the Louvre Museum at night because it's tight ass entry fee in the evening and like in the Sistine Chapel, no pics were to be taken of the very androgeonous Mona Lisa but in true stealth form like last time, Sam managed to block the guards and we got a slightly blurred pic (not too bad considering she was behind glass I think). We had a picnic of baguettes, salad, french cheese and Merlot just outside the Louvre after we did the tour of the gallery and waited for the sun to go down so we could get some night shots of the city. It was the best way to spend our last night there walking around listening to the Parisianne accents and breathing it all in.
Paris is absolutely a must do if you´re tripping through Europe and like I said before, our experience was pretty good with the locals though it is safe to say the Frenchies can be a little stenchy!! (maybe it's all that
yummy cheese and wine being consumed!!).
