Arrived into the City around midday by Taxi rather than the Bus taking us the full way due to a disagreement between the President and the Mayor of Guayaquil over, of course money.
I understand that the Mayor wants the money of incoming Buses to stay In Guayaquil and not be used for the good of all Ecuador because Guayaquil is a successful modernising City and well, who knows who's pockets the money goes to after leaving the City?

We managed to find a Hotel (sorta) for $15 and unpacked the bags and went for something to eat and took it easy for the rest of the day.

Santiago de Guayaquil, or just Guayaquil is the largest and the most populous city in Ecuador and was founded on July 25, 1538 with the name Muy Noble y Muy Leal Ciudad de Santiago de Guayaquil by Spanish Conquistador Francisco de Orellana. It has the nation's main port by the Guayas River and is the center of Ecuador's fishing and manufacturing industries, the estimated metropolitan population is around 2,908,338.

Also interestingly enough Beavis and Butt-head & King of the Hill creator Mike Judge was born in Guayaquil.

During the night me and Miriam went for walk down the Waterfront "Maricon" which has recently in 2001 been totally renovated to make it quite the Tourist attraction of Guyaquil.
It reminded me a lot of Florida with the various attractions and humidity at night.
The even had an Imax Cinema but we didn't get the opportunity to see what and Imax Cinema actually does. At the far end of the promenade there is a hill that rises up with a Dover style Lighthouse on top yeah weird I know but it takes around 400 steps to get there much to Miriam's dismay. Along the way you can see the difference of what it was before as they have original photos of the buildings as they were, bearing graffiti and brick work with no colour at all. Now they have paving, lighting, plastering with colour and wood finishing everywhere, a huge difference and really shows how you can change the feel of a place if done right.

At the top you have spectacular views of the City of Guayaquil really showing it to be the more modern and wealthier City of Ecuador with a definite European influence.
Walking through the streets you can see people repainting parts or sweeping the streets and clearing rubbish away which is the first time I have seen that in Ecuador its just missing the influx of Tourists.
It has the Tropical heat and beautiful River which seperates it from the other Cities of Ecuador and I enjoyed my short stay very much.
