Last weekend Laura, Kristian, Lizette and I went on an excursion to Colmar. It's JB's hometown so he offered to show us around and then take us out to see the wine district so we made a whole day of it.
I thought that after having seen the beautiful cobblestone streets and old German architecture of Petite France in Strasbourg that I couldn’t ever see anything as pretty again. Turns out I was wrong! Colmar is by far the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen. The entire city is like one giant candy town. Every street is breathtaking and the buildings are so colourful and detailed - I find it hard to believe that more people don’t know about it.
We spent a couple of hours walking around the city, stopping to grab coffee here and there and just soaking up the atmosphere, but then by midday it was time for a BBQ. JB's parents live in Colmar and when he told them he was taking his Australian friends to Colmar to show them the town, they insisted on having us over for lunch. It was such a generous offer and we were completely spoiled! They put on a
huge spread of food, lots of it vegetarian, and we sat outside in the sunshine talking for hours.
It was such a great experience for us to have a real French BBQ, to meet JB’s family and friends. They were very hospitable, and now that we all seem to have improved so much with our French, it wasn't as daunting as it may have been had we done it a few months ago. It was just a pleasant day eating amazing food and drinking wine in true French fashion.
After lunch the adventure continued. We went for a drive through the Alsace wine region full of rolling, green vineyards. We stopped to visit a little town called Riquewihr which was probably one of the cutest little fairytale villages I've ever seen. Lots of old buildings like Colmar, but more like a fantasy land with tiny streets and surrounded by vineyard covered hills.
To finish off what can only be described as a perfect day, we stopped at a few wine places to get some free samples. Anyone who knows me knows that there's nothing I love more than free wine, but to have found that nice, dry

This buidling had little detailed heads all over it! white I've been searching for for the last five months made me happier than you can imagine! All in all, a perfect day in Alsace - arguably one of the most gorgeous regions on this earth.

Wow!!
It is hard to believe that that is all real. It is just so different to Australia. A friend of mine from work went to a wedding in Colmar recently and she did say how beautiful it was there. Amazing
