It’s a Small World 2007 . . . . .
While I was waiting to fly out of LAX, I decided to buy one last “quality” magazine to catch up on Lindsay Lohan’s latest shenanigans (I try to stay away from these when I’m traveling and stick to books). As I was waiting in line the guy in front of me looked awfully familiar. It was Brandon Buza who I met a year ago when he was interested in renting my house in San Francisco. He didn’t, but we became friends. When I returned from my last trip he asked me about the cooking school I went to in Tuscany as he was planning an Italy trip. He was at LAX airport on his way BACK from Italy, spending a week at Badia a Coltibuono! It was a nice send off to see someone who just spent two weeks exploring another country on their own and had a great experience somewhere I loved. (Brandon, since you had a week of lessons, I expect an Italian meal when I come home!)

The Booze Mobile is still around! . . . .
"hos·pi·ta·ble - receiving or treating guests or strangers warmly and generously." This is my friend Lisa, who I met last year on my trip. She welcomed me into her home when we had never met, and now I'm lucky enough to call her my friend. As I mentioned, before I left I hadn’t planned out my trip, I just got on the plane with a little nudge from Lisa saying, “Just get on the plane and you can figure it out when you get here!” Sounded like a good enough plan at the time.
I started the weekend with dinner at one of my favorite spots, Ffiona’s. As always, Fiona was entertaining and her food was yummy! It was a great night with all my SF friends who live here: Michi and Jon, Chris Maddox who is in the process of moving here, his friend Jim, also working here, and Lisa. It was just like being at Brazen Head in Cow Hollow. Later in the week I met up for dinner with my friend Malgosia who brought along surprise guest Sakina who was in town from SF. Like I said, it’s been a San Francisco

I’m Going to Africa!
Yes, I’m serious . . . So besides catching up with friends, my time in London was to be spent planning the rest of my summer in Europe. Day before yesterday I got a little distracted on the Internet and noticed that Cross Cultural Solutions, an organization I had researched in the past, had ONE spot available on their Tanzania trip August 4th. After about two hours on the phone with the company rep, I ran off to Michi and Jon’s house to debate if I should go. Jon immediately said “You’ve got to go, that’s great!” and I explained to him that I’m a girl, and we tend to like a little more discussion around the decision. So they indulged me for a few more minutes and then I signed up online. The next day, after more debates over the phone with Lisa and my friend Erin, I bought a plane ticket. And this morning, I went to the Travel Doc and received $600 worth of shots in my arms . . . No, I’m not kidding. Three in each arm. It’s been a few hours since the shots and

I really want a dog, but I'll pass on this one. it now feels like someone injected cement in my shoulders. So, after all this, I guess you can say I am totally committed!
Join Me in Africa (well, sort of) . . .
The program consists of three weeks in Arusha, Tanzania where I will have the opportunity to work within the community and live outside of the town in a house with 36 other volunteers (think summer camp, two sets of bunk beds in one room sharing a bathroom. . . Woo hoo!). I’ll be covering my flight and personal expenses, but I thought fundraising for my participation fee (or even more) would be a wonderful way to involve my family and friends (and it’s tax deductible too!). So please consider sponsoring me by clicking on or copying this link: http://my.crossculturalsolutions.org/Login.aspx?username=cafoley Of course I will keep you updated on this site, but Africa is in August and I still have seven weeks in Europe . . . Stay tuned!
I have lots more to tell you, especially about my amazing day yesterday, but you’ll have to wait for the next blog (trying to keep the these short and sweet and I need some more pictures to
