Sitting Folded in Half for 8 Hours Isn't Good

A Long Way

The Team may never return to the US--unless they can book a seat on the Space Shuttle!

A Long Way
The Team had a Board meeting and decided we would make blog entries separately so here we go.

Mom's Entry

Sitting 8 hours, whether in a plane or in a classroom, isn’t good! (I now know why God created beds on the 3rd day.) Fellow educators, I have a new appreciation for the “movement” piece in the classroom. I am officially running for the position of TPS Ambassador for Movement—I will run for that office on the platform of removing all desks from the classroom!

The Chicago to London flight was pretty amazing. I don’t normally hang out at 35,000 feet for any extended period of time so it was neat to see what happens up there over the course of 8 hours. The Matt member of The Team tried to explain to me what the sun was doing and why the sun went down and then reappeared a couple of hours later, but I just don’t get all that science stuff (sorry, Adrienne). I just thought it was beautiful. Check out Matt’s pictures. You’ll see a couple of wing shots of the event.

So part of the 8 hours was spent watching that crazy movie called Wild Hogs. Matt was pretty embarrassed as his Mom laughed so hard at those motorcycle hogs, and I don’t even like Tim Allen. I guess the confinement got to me. Matt didn’t realize he was laughing too but only to the latest episode of The Office. Bonding……

Four hours into the flight and I realized sleep wasn’t approaching. So I tried the Tylenol PM thing, only to have it kick in at the 7th hour. So that last hour before arriving in London was totally miserable. I’ve come to learn I have to have my bed—or a bed--to sleep. It was a race to see who could wiggle the most. Those family members who know Matt know he has never liked to travel because he couldn’t stay confined to an auto for more than 30 minutes. OK family members—try 8 hours sitting next to that electric chiquaua! What we ended up with was 2 electric chiquauas! We did great. Further bonding……

When the plane landed in London, I danced in the aisles. Of course, Matt was embarrassed again. I think I saw him do a little dance too though. We looked for the Beetles in the London airport, but heard they had just boarded another plane. Maybe on the return trip we will see them. I just want to hold their hand. I have a new appreciation for US airports—ours are beautiful. London Heathrow was pretty run down looking (as well as the Bucharest airport—more on that later). Matt has some neat shots of London from the air so check those out.

From London we were off to Bucharest…another opportunity to make a new friend. Matt and I took our seats and thought we may have a little spreading out room since the seat next to me stayed vacant. Then a nice-looking gentlemen boarded and politely sat next to me. I said to myself, “This 3-hour leg will go by quickly because I’m going to meet a new friend and share tourism stories.” (All you ladies who requested an Italian man, this wasn’t him.) So here I go, only to realize the guy spoke not one word of English! Hey, maybe he just couldn’t understand my redneck, Southern, hick accent! I THOUGHT EVERYONE SPOKE ENGLISH—well, they should. We still ended up as friends. He waved goodbye to us as he left the plane---the universal language.

We finally landed in what will be our new home for almost 2 weeks—Bucharest Romania. It was great to see my brother Doug. He is 2nd in line of the 5 siblings, with myself as being the “bratty baby sister”—5th child. My sister-in-law Betsy is back in the US for now so I won’t have my shopping tour guide. I hope my brother realizes there has to be a little of that in our travel itinerary. My buds in the US sent me with a list--dark chocolate, coffee, unusual fabric, wind chimes, a few Italian men, things Kelly wanted that I can’t even pronounce (they weren’t written in redneck), etc. Maybe Doug can help out on finding those items.

Signing off. It’s still dark outside here and I’m wide awake--my internal clock is all messed up. Doug has a full itinerary of traveling through Romania scheduled for us so I had better try to get more sleep.

Matt will post when he wakes up. He will also get some pictures uploaded since he told me that was his “area.” He’s a pretty amazing son with an artful eye for photography. Praise God for this opportunity to spend with my precious son. Further, Further Bonding……
