Brienzer Lake
It's this just lovely! Just seeing this scenery explains why the Swiss are so happy and nice. Switzerland
Julie J Vanover After four days in Paris I have to admit that anything would feel welcoming, but Switzerland was so beautiful and welcoming! It was just what I needed. The closer I got to Switzerland the prettier the scenery was and I arrived in Switzerland in Geneva- right on the lake. I was instantly in love! Just riding on the train was wonderful because there were such wonderful things to look at. I continued on the train through Bern to Interlaken where I was staying and just looked out the windows at all the beautiful scenery. Mountains, lakes, green... ahhh. And everyone in Switzerland was so incredibly nice. If I was waiting to cross the street they would screech to a halt and if I hurried across they would tell me to slow down. People nodded and said good evening as you passed on the street. It was so perfect it was almost like a 50's sitcom.
I walked around Interlaken and walked along the many trails next to the lake Brienzersee. I saw the highest mountain in Europe the Jungfrau- I actually had a view of it outside my hostel window and woke up to it every morning. The Eiger
is also right there! The next morning I had planned to take a train to Lucerne and spend the night there, but all the hostels were very expensive. So I realized that wasn't going to work so I decided to leave Switzerland and go straight through to Munich.
I woke up the next morning and was a little bummed as I wanted to spend more time in Switzerland. I realized that I could stay here in Interlaken- so I flipped a coin and I stayed one more night. Initially I was going to take a day trip to Lucerne, but realized that I would be seeing the same train trip 3 times as that was the way that I was leaving. So I decided to go to Montreux where there was a castle and I would get to see the entire Golden Pass Panoramic trail route. So off I went, now the Swiss were so incredibly punctual that there train connections are 5 minutes apart and you always arrive exactly at the minute. My train was delayed because of a problem with the tracks and they made an announcement apologizing- the train was 2 minutes late. The train ride
to Montreux was amazingly beautiful, I think that I could ride the train all day in Switzerland and never get sick of it.
I walked to the castle along the lake and then took my tour. The Chateau de Chillon was made famous by Lord Byron who wrote a poem about Bonivard who was kept chained to a pillar in the prison for 4 years. The Castle was very nice, there were many different levels and a wide variety of styles and building periods (medieval remodeling). The Castle was lovely and the views around it were amazing as well. So, very pleased with my extra day in Switzerland I headed back to Interlaken. The next day I headed off for Munich and had an hour layover in Lucern, so I walked to "The Dying Lion" monument which was so powerful and wonderful. I was really glad that I made my mad dash to see it, and what a wonderful end of my visit to Switzerland. I loved Switzerland!!! So beautiful, peaceful, pleasant and friendly. The only problem was that I was expensive... otherwise I would have stayed much longer.

Everything in Switzerland is so beautiful. You got some gorgeous pictures. We love the mountains and the lakes. And the little chalet is so cute. We can see why you hated to leave.
