After 4 really enjoyable days in Budapest it was time to move to our next to Lbuljana, stay overnight there, pick up a car the next morning and drive into to the Slovenian countryside to Bovec.
Well fair to say things didnt start off too well. As it turned out we incorrectly assumed that the train would leave from the main station, Keleti the same one we arrived at 4 days earlier from Bratislava. This was not the case. Upon presenting our tickets we were told that the train to Slovenia left from another station across the other side of town. After a mild panic attack ( Glenn is so good in a crisis) we hailed a cab and made a mad dash across town with a cab dirver who insisted on pointnig out all the main tourist sights along the way and whilst donig leaving the car to drive itself.
Anyway we made it in plenty of time and climbed on board bound for Ljubljana. After a small altercation with a couple from Brisbane who had pinched what were our reserved seats we settled down for the 8hour trip. Here we encountered our next problem, there was
nowhere on the train to buy food or drink. We were totally unprepared for this having taken absolutely nothing on board with us. Fortunately an American couple took pity on us an gave us a couple of apples along the way.
Ther trip itself was pleasant enough with the last few hours taking us through some of the most beautiful country imaginable. The train line ran through a valley beside a river with mountains either side. We arrived in Ljubljana at 9.30pm a lot thirsty and a little hungry.
Next morning we headed off to collect our car, here was we had a stroke of good luck! The car we had ordered was overbooked so they upgraded us to a brand new Volkswagon Tourana which had been driven straight from the show room. After setting the GPS to Bovec we were on our way
Once again the drive took us through some breathtaking country side. Bovec is a small mountain village nestled in the foot hills of the Julian Alps and is a mecca for outdoor and exteme sports enthusiasts. You can do any thing you want here from paragliding to canyoning to whitewater rafting to mountainbiking
and anything else you can think of.
We found our accommodation easily, the beautiful Dobra Villa a small hotel near the centre of town. We are staying in room 69! The room for lovers or so we have been told!!
Caught up with Tim for lunch, washed down with two 1/2 litres of Union the local beer. Good to see him feeling a lot better.
Saturday was again a beautiful day so we arranged to go whitewater rafting on the Soca River. We had a mad Mexican as our guide who was a lot of fun. The rafting was great with amazing scenery and very cold water. At one point we all had to do the "rescue drill" which involved us getting out of a raft onto a rock and then diving into the river and back into the raft, a little chilly given the water was about 12 degrees. That evening we had dinner with our raft guides and a couple from France who were on their honeymoon.
Sunday was race day and also the day when the heavens opened. It was the heaviest rain we had seen in a vey long time easily enough
to have broken the drought back home!!With so much rain, the course was very different than the one the team had trained on over the past week.
Their first run was average to say the least, they hit 5 gates and got washed down stream on gate 7, they were not impressed! This put them 12 seconds behind the other Aussie pair and in 8th position. Their second run was dazzling by comparison, 24 seconds quicker with only 1 touch. This moved them into 6th position and ahead of the Aussie pair. Overall a very pleasing result, which even put a smile on Tim and Tom´s little faces!
Tomorrow we had back to Ljubljana to pick up Matt, we are excited to see him! From there we head to Rab Island in Croatia for the next 5 days then back to Ljubljana to see Tim compete in his final race.
Oh, by the way Sharee & Ross just to rub it in a bit more, it is "Bike Week" here in the Bovec area!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope all is well,
Glenn & Vicki

We encountered a similar problem in prgaue, made an assumption that the train station we same into was the one we were going out of. Just a little bit of salt in the wound of sharee and ross there. Good win by the bombers again this week but i see that carlton lost again. March premiers!!!!!!!!! See u 2moro
